I hope I can explain this properly and easily.  To create circular text, open Word and click on the Insert menu.  Select Picture from the menu and then WordArt.  (There's also an icon on the Drawing toolbar that looks like a 3-d letter A.  If you click on that it opens up WordArt as well).

Either way, you should get a pop-up box that is entitled WordArt Gallery and tells you to select a WordArt style.  I usually pick the black curved one in the top row, but it doesn't really matter - you can change all of it later.

So, select the style you want and click OK.  Now you get a box entitled Edit WordArt Text.  You can select your font, font size and attributes here and then type in your text.  When you are done typing your text, click OK.  Again, if you change your mind, you can always go back in and edit font, size, etc. later.

Now you should see the text you just entered in your document.  To get it into a circular shape, right click on the text and select Show WordArt Toolbar.  A little toolbar will pop up.  There's an icon on the toolbar that's a capital letter A (if you hover your mouse over it, it's called WordArt Shape).  Click on that and select the circle - or whatever shape you want.  Once that's done, the text should be in the correct orientation, but you may have to fiddle around with the size of it using the 'drag handles' to get it into a perfect circle.

To edit the text, just double click on the image.  Hope this helps.  You might want to print it out so it's easier to follow the first few times!

I saw someone ask about the text printing very bold no matter the size - if you double click on the word art or select "format word art" you can change things like color, outline, etc. Change the "outline" to "0" and this will trim your letters down immensely.

Also - if you know you want a perfect circle and know what size you want it to end up you can resize to the 10th of an inch in the same format screen under the "size" tab. This AM I printed a circular text that I needed to fit inside my 1" circle punch that I sized to .8" and it fit perfectly. Just enter the same measurement into both the height and width boxes for a perfect circle or differing measurements for an oval.

I followed the directions and then saved the file as "journaling circle" that way I can go in and easily edit for what I want.

When I got my example done I saved it as "journaling circle" so I could go back and easily edit. I have used it several times. I never knew word could do so much!

This MB is awesome!!

Wow I am a dork. I saw this thread and said Giddy Up let me check it out. I didn't see that it ws from Feb. I figure I better save it to my favorites and print it out later. Well I went to save it and it was there already. I guess I should check out what I have in my favorites and get this stuff printed. Can you say DUH?

Just ran across this post and I printed out the directions to make the circle text and got as far as "Show WordArt Toolbar" and that is where Moses parted the Red Sea and I got lost. I have Word 2007 and Vista. I don't know if that makes a difference. Is it possible that is the problem?
