Manage and Share Your Projects

  • Exporting project files
    • You can export your saved projects to share them with other Cricut Craft Room® users or add them to your Cricut Gypsy™ device. 

      Export

      Export Cricut Craft Room® projects (.ccr) or Cricut Gypsy™ projects (.gypsy) to share with others users:

      Step 1: Click the Open button in the File menu.

      Step 2: Choose a project and then select Export.

      Step 3: You will be asked to choose either Cricut Craft Room® Project (.ccr) or Cricut Gypsy™ (.gypsy) file formats.

      Step 4: Click Begin to start the conversion.

      Step 5: When it is finished working, choose Save. A Finder or Explorer window will appear and allow you to select where you would like to save the project file on your computer. 

      You can now attach the exported file to an email, post it on Cricut® Project Center, or transfer it onto your Cricut Gypsy™ device using the Cricut® Sync program.

      Additional instructions for Cricut Gypsy™ device and Cricut DesignStudio® software users:

      To add an exported .gypsy project to a Cricut Gypsy™ device:

      Step 1: Close the Cricut Craft Room® design software. Connect your Cricut Gypsy™ device to your computer and run the Cricut® Sync program.
      Step 2: When your Cricut Gypsy™ projects appear, click Add Projects
      Step 3: Locate the exported file on your computer and click Open. The project will be added to your Cricut Gypsy™ device.

      To add an exported .gypsy project to the Cricut DesignStudio® software:

      Step 1: Close the Cricut Craft Room® design software. Open your project in the Cricut DesignStudio® software.
      Step 2: Click File and Open.
      Step 3: Locate the exported file on your computer and click Open. The project will open in the Cricut DesignStudio® software.

  • Importing Project Files
    • If you want to open Cricut Craft Room® projects or Cricut Gypsy™ projects saved on your computer, you can use the import feature.

      Import

      Import Cricut Craft Room® projects (.ccr) or Cricut Gypsy™ projects (.gypsy) into your Cricut Craft Room® account:

       

      Step 1: Click the Open button in the File menu.

      Step 2: Select Import.

      Step 3: A Finder or Explorer window will appear and allow you to navigate to either .ccr or .gypsy projects saved on your computer.

      Step 4: Select the file and click Open.

      The project will now appear in your list of projects in the Cricut Craft Room® design software. If you have imported and opened a project that was designed on mat size larger than the one used with your Cricut® machine, you may need to change the Default Machine and/or Mat Size in the Machine & Mat left tool tab. Once the mat size is correct, you may need to reposition the images so that they are all in the valid cutting area.

      Additional instructions for Cricut Gypsy™ device and Cricut DesignStudio® software users:

      To save a Cricut Gypsy™ project on your computer to import into the Cricut Craft Room® design software:

      Step 1: Connect your Cricut Gypsy™ device to your computer and run the Cricut® Sync program. (Make sure that the Cricut Craft Room® design software is NOT running.)
      Step 2: When the projects on your Cricut Gypsy™ device appear, locate the file in your project list. Drag and drop the file onto your computer desktop or other location.
      Step 3: Close the Cricut® Sync program and disconnect your Cricut Gypsy™ device from your computer.

      To save a Cricut DesignStudio® project to your computer to import into the Cricut Craft Room® design software:
      Step 1: Open your project in the Cricut DesignStudio® software. (Make sure that the Cricut Craft Room® design software is NOT running.)
      Step 2: Click Save As.
      Step 3: In the window that pops up, change the drop down-menu to Cricut Gypsy™ files (*.gypsy) and save.
      Step 4: Close the Cricut DesignStudio® software.

  • Supported File Types
    • The Cricut Craft Room® design software can export projects as a .gypsy file or .ccr file. When you export as a .gypsy file, any Cricut Imagine® art or patterns will be lost.

      .gypsy—Cricut Gypsy™ Cricut® App file type. Does not support Cricut Imagine® images or printing colors/patterns.
      .cricut—Cricut Gypsy™ Cricut Imagine® App file type. Supports Cricut Imagine® images and printing colors/patterns.
      .imagine—These have been changed to .cricut files.
      .ccr—The Cricut Craft Room® file type.
      .cut—The Cricut DesignStudio®  file type.

  • Managing Projects
    • Starting a Project. To start a new project, log in to the Cricut Craft Room® design software. A blank project will automatically open by default.

       If you have already opened an existing project, you can click New in the File Menu at the top of your screen.

       

      Open an Existing Project. To open an existing project, log in to the Cricut Craft Room® design software and click Open from the File menu. Double click the project in the project list to open it, or select it and click Open at the bottom of the window.

      You can sort your projects by project name or date saved. Simply click on the heading to activate that sort option. An arrow will appear next to the column heading.

       If you have already opened an existing project, click Open in the File Menu at the top of your screen to open the Project List window. The Cricut Craft Room® design software will ask you to save or not save any changes you may have made.

       Now select the project you wish to open and click Open or double click on the project.

       

      Renaming a Project. You can change the name of a project multiple ways.

      1. To rename a project you’re currently working on, select the Machine & Mat tools. Click on the pencil icon next to the current project name in the brown box and edit the text.

      2. To rename a project you’re currently working on, minimize the image drawer by clicking the small green button with a white arrow on the left side. A dark gray bar will appear on the bottom of your screen with your current project name. Click on the name and edit the text.

      3. While viewing saved projects, click on the pencil icon next to the project name you wish to edit, or click on the name itself to edit the text.

      4. If you are in a new project that has not yet been named, you will be prompted to name your project when you click Save from the File menu.

      5. If you are in an existing project, you can select Save As from the File menu to save a copy of the open project under a new name.

      Saving a Project. You can save your project at any time by clicking the Save button at the top of the screen or using the save shortcut Ctrl + S or CMD + S. Use the Save As option from the File menu to create a copy of the open project under a new name.

       

      Delete a Project. Click Open to view the Project List window. Click on the trash can icon next to the name of the project you wish to delete. A window will pop up to verify that you want to delete the project. Click Yes to delete the project or No to go back to the previous screen.

      Closing the Cricut Craft Room® Design Software. To close the Cricut Craft Room® design software, click the Log Out button [change button name?] under the File menu. The Cricut Craft Room® design software will ask you to save your project if any changes have been made.

      You can also close the window running the Cricut Craft Room® design software by selecting the X or red circle in the corner of the window. The Cricut Craft Room® design software will ask you to save your project if any changes have been made.
