Design with Multiple Layers
The layer tabs in the Cricut Craft Room® design software allow you to design with multiple mats or sheets within one project. If your project uses multiple colors of paper or different materials, you can create a layer for each material. As you add images to the mat, you can place them on the appropriate layer tab. When you are ready to cut your project, each layer/mat can be cut separately on the correct material
- Layer Options
-
Renaming a Layer: Double click on the layer name and an editing box will appear. Edit the text and click off the layer to save your changes.

You can also click the drop-down menu and choose Rename to activate the editing box.

Deleting a Layer: To delete a layer, click the drop-down menu on the layer you wish to delete and choose Delete. If there are images on that layer, you will be asked to confirm the deletion. Deleting the layer will also delete any images on that layer.

Hiding a Layer: To hide a layer, click the eye icon on the layer. The eye will appear gray and the images on that layer will no longer show on the digital mat. To show the layer again, click the eye icon to activate it.

Rearranging the Layer Order: When using layers, you may find that you need to rearrange the order in which your layers appear. To do so, click, drag, and drop the layers into the order you desire. The far left layer appears on top.
- Layer Colors
-
When a new layer is created, it is automatically assigned a color. You can change the color displayed by clicking on the color icon to the right of the layer name. The Choose Color window will pop up. Select one of the basic colors on the left or customize your color using the color wheel or RGB values. Click Apply to save your changes. Select the white box with the red slash to remove a layer color completely and only display the image outlines.

- Add Images to Layer
-
When designing a project with multiple layers, images will automatically be added to the currently active layer. To move images between layers, use the cut and paste buttons in the Top Tools. Make sure the correct layer is active before pasting the image.
