Father's Day

In my neck of the woods, we celebrate Father's Day on June 15th this year. I have learned there are quite a number of countries which celebrate Father's Day on a different day. I thought I'd share my fun little discovery with you.

As you know, of course, Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, France, Greece, Hong Kong S.A.R., India, Ireland, Japan, Macao S.A.R., Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe all celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June.

Fathers are honored March 19th in Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. It is observed on June 23rd in Poland and Nicaragua. Australia and New Zealand give father a pat on the back on the first Sunday of June.

But let's not stop there. Here is a list of other dates on which people celebrate the lives of "dear old dad":
Austria: second Sunday of June, Brazil: second Sunday of August, Denmark: June 5 (also Constitution Day), Dominican Republic: last Sunday of July, Germany: Ascension Day, Iran: 13 Rajab, birthday of Ali, Lithuania: first Sunday of June, Russia: February 23 (Defender of the Fatherland Day, "Men?s Day"), South Korea: May 8 (Parents' Day), Taiwan: August 8 , Thailand: December 5 (birthday of King Bhumibol Adulyadej), and Vietnam: July 7 (Parents' Day).

Regardless of where you live on this planet, enjoy the day whenever it comes! Do be careful to not let dad find out about this little gem of shared information or you could be mowing the lawn and buying ugly ties a tad bit more than you are accustomed to.

Happy Cricuting :-)

Cartridges Used:

Beyond Birthdays, Mini Monograms, Base Camp,?and Stamped
Instructions:
?
Paper : Scrapbook Walls Colors - Butter & Olive Stripes, Butter Bloom, Reading Flowers & Holiday Stripe Flower Accents - Orange & Yellow from Paperbilities Coordinating Ribbons, Adhesive, Bronze Brads Modge Podge by Plaid Accordion Fold Mini Album from All My Memories (AMM)
-Begin by cutting coordinating papers to fit album, ensuring that edges slightly overlap so as not to leave any gaps. Apply lightly with two sided tape, and seal with Mod Podge. (Follow directions on the product.)
-Allow appropriate time to dry.
-Attach flowers to cover with any coordinating brad.
-Add torn paper as desired. Cut "Love" (2 1/2") and bonus Heart(2", 1 1/2", & 1") from Stamped Cricut Cartridge and chalk the edges with red to soften the layers.
-Chalk the heart in the word love lightly with red.
-Open album and wrap paper around the center folds for your background paper.
-I tore the edge across the back side to add texture to those pages. I also chalked a dark green on first, and then muted it with yellow to get the same olive green color as the paper.
-For inside pages, cut "kiss, kiss, hug, hug" at 2" from the Base camp Cartidge.
-Also cut " I (heart) U" from the Mini Monograms cartridge, set at 1 1/2". -This cut will go on the "Heartbag - Window" from the Tags, Bags, Boxes & More cartridge.
-To embelish the Heartbag, I used the "Heart tag" from the same cartridge.
-Add photos, ribbons and journaling to personalize your mini album.
-Enjoy!

CARTRIDGE EXPLORATION - Baseball Solutions Cartridge

WOW! Where has this week gone? It seems just the other day that I was sitting down to write about what I had explored with the Cricut. This week I decided to explore the last Solution?s Cartridge, and what a fun cartridge it is. The Baseball Solutions Cartridge cartridge has so much to offer in the way of phrases and images that fit the baseball season. I must say from a women's perspective that watching a baseball game is a delight and the game is so much fun to yell at. I have many memories going to watch my brother's baseball games and cheering them as they round the bases--now I have die cuts that compliment my pictures.

Okay, enough about memory lane, here's what you will find with this cartridge: baseball gloves, hats, pats, t-shirts, ump shirts, face & body catcher equipment, score board, food, and a baseball frame. You will also get many baseball stances for example; swing a bat, sliding into base, throwing a pitch, ect.... Phrases that come with this cartridge are: "baseball," "Play Ball," "Home Run," "Nice Catch" and many other phrases. You also get the words of all the baseball positions for example: batter, pitcher, and the other positions that filled in a baseball game. The creative features that come with this cartridge are Shadow and Blackout. The way the artist designed these images you need to plan on cutting a shadow or blackout with every image so that you can recognize the shape when you are finished. You also have the layered feature so you can change the colors to make your baseball die cuts standout.

Some of the images that I thought would make great frames for your Scrapbooking pictures are: the outfield image, the t-shirt, and the pennant. I took the baseball hat and using the Cricut Design Studio I layered the pitching mound blackout on top of the hat to create a frame. Now you can just lay the Cricut die cut on top of a picture and put into your scrapbook page, I?ve included my creation in my cut file. You can also use this same image to make a party invitation. I made a sample in my cut file and I included the words that you would use on the out side of the invitation (see pic). I used the font Jasmine for the words "Party" and the "Baseball" phrase from the actual cartridge. I made my party invitation sort of girly but that's okay, because girls like baseball too.

Other ideas that you could use this cartridge with are: the word phrases would look great cut out of vinyl and placed on wood frame, that of course has a picture of some one playing baseball. The baseball stances would make a great car decal, just make sure that you cut the shadow out of a sold color then the image that you want and you will be set. The baseball stances are sometimes really hard to cut out at a 1 inch height, so I would make my car decals at least 2 inches high or bigger.

If you don?t have this cartridge in your Cricut family then it is one that you must purchase when you can. This cartridge is a great compliment to the rest of the Cricut Cartridges. Check out next week as I continue to explore what the Cricut cartridges can create.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"When I was a kid, I used to imagine animals running under my bed. I told my dad, and he solved the problem quickly. He cut the legs off the bed."
