Birthdays

Birthdays are occasions that do not often go unnoticed in my family. More particularly, the birthdays of the younger kinfolk in our clan. Probably because the wee ones are so good at reminding everyone around them, well in advance, that their special day is approaching.

Birthday events are great material for scrap booking, but don't forget about the cards and invitations. With Cricut, whipping up fabulous birthday cards has never been so easy. Make a special birthday keepsake card for some one you care about today and share a little bit of yourself. It won't go unnoticed. They'll thank you for adding something special to their special day.

Best of luck and "Happy Cricuting!"

SEPTEMBER SWARM WINNER

Our group is a great group of ladies! We have so much fun at our swarm...we chat a lot and have fun shopping and sharing ideas with each other! Everyone is so helpful with each other and are so willing to take the time away from their craft and show you something you been wanting to learn! This was our 3rd get together and have enjoyed every one of them! We have done different kinds of swaps with each other and they are super fun..this time was a card swap where we made cards for each other and we all got one of each others works of art! We also gift exchange at them! This time we changed it a little too...we bought something little for each person there, that was a nice change!

I know we have made life long friends all from our bugs and for the love of crafting! Thank you Cricut for picking our wonderful swarm as the winners for September!

PROJECT CORNER AND SPOTLIGHT

Name:
Susan Edwards
About:
I am Susan Edwards, wife, mother, daughter, sister, artist, administrative professional, and scrapbooker. I have always found enjoyment and gratification in creating art. For me scrapbooking was an archival form of art allowing the chronicling of my three children's lives (now BIG children at 22, 20 and 17). I have been a scrapbooker for the last decade, but the introduction of the Cricut turned a boarder-line scrap addiction into a full-fledged scrapping obsession! I love my Cricut Expression! Honestly, I really do! The Expression machine combined with Cricket Design Studio software has allowed me to once again enjoy being an artist, a designer, and scrapbooker, all while chronicling the journey of our lives.

Susan's Project: Halloween Hanging Basket

Cartridges Used:

Paper Doll Dress Up, Doodlecharms
Instructions:
Materials needed: Cricut Doodlecharms Cartridge
Cricut Paper Doll Dress Up Cartridge
12 x 12 chipboard
12 x 12 thin card board (cereal box weight)
Imaginisce Halloween paper and cardstock tag set
Prima Say it in Crystal black
Bazzill Basics cardstock
Stickles Orange organza ribbon
Assorted other Halloween ribbon
Fall foliage
Heavy duty glue
Empty floral stems

Using Cricut DesignStudio, select the handled basket from the Doodlecharms cartridge. Size the basket to fill as much of the 12 x 12 virtual cutting mat as possible. Cut the basket in chipboard, then in thin cardboard, and finally in Halloween paper. Cut the handle off of the paper and thin cardboard cuts. Using strong adhesive, adhere the paper to the thin cardboard cut, run the ribbon through the openings at the top edge of the basket. Using super-strong adhesive or a glue gun, adhere the front section of the basket to the chipboard cut, bowing out the front piece to make the basket 3D. Finish decorating the front of the basket with the card stock tag, crystals and attach a bow to the ribbon. Using DesignStudio and the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge, size and cut the ghost, cat, and pumpkin, cutting a shadow color for each. Adhere the two layers together, decorate with Stickles, and let dry completely. Using a glue gun, attach the ghost, cat, and pumpkin to empty floral stems. Squirt glue inside the basket and arrange the fall foliage, inserting the ghost, cat, and pumpkin stems. Add a bit of fall foliage to the lower front to the basket to link the look together.

TIPS TREASURE CHEST - A Wise Reminder

The holidays are coming up and many of you will be purchasing Cricut machines and products for family members and friends. Please remember to save the receipts from your purchases. A receipt will be a necessity if your gift bug has a little bug that needs to be fixed. This will greatly facilitate the servicing of any Cricut products and the recipient of your gift will thank you as well.

CARTRIDGE EXPLORATION - Disney/Pixar Cars Cartridge

The week that I got the Tinker Bell cartridge I also received the Disney Cars cartridge as well. I was so excited to get this cartridge because I loved the movie so much. I have a confession to admit to you all, but I am holding you all in my confidence that you won't change your opinion of me once my secret is out. Okay, here I go: I have watched this move about six times, and four of those times I didn't have any kids with me while I was watching it. Wahoo, so glad that my confession is out! I think grownups can like Lighting McQueen too--or maybe I'm just saying that to make myself feel better--oh well. Let me tell you about this new wonderful cartridge that has been added to the Cricut family.

First off you have all your favorite characters from the move, Lightning McQueen, The King, DJ, Snotrod, Chick hicks, Sally, Wingo, Boost, Mac & Trailer, Mater (my second favorite), Doc Hudson, Sheriff, Luigi, Guido, Red, Sarge, Fillmore, Frank, Tracker, Flo, and Ramone. This cartridge has so many fun images you can cut. Like the other Disney cartridges you have to cut your base layer first then cut out all the other layers and glue them together, similar to a puzzle.

The creative features that come with this cartridge are: Body/White/Windows, Tires/Eyes, Detail/Detail, Spare Parts, Spare Parts Blackout, and Shadow. Obviously the first three creative features are the layers that you have to cut out then glue to the base image. Other images that come on this cartridge are a stop sign, road sign, speed limit sign, and a yield sign. You also get a "The World or Cars" sign plus Lighting McQueen's racing number. There are a bunch of different images on about five different cars, so you have a great selection to choose from when you make your scrapbook. I wonder if I could make a few scrapbook pages with these images for my dog Eddie--he loves to chew on cars--I will have to get some pictures of him doing that so I can have my self a Lighting McQueen scrapbook page, hehehe. The shadow feature provides you with the black outline for each of the cars, so you images will "pop" with whatever project you are making.

The Spare Parts creative feature is really unique. I was really excited to see all the extra images that are provided. Let me share with you some of images that you can cut using this feature. You can now create your own "Piston Cup" and use this as your title. You also get the lighting bolt, McQueen's name, "Start your engines" title, "Speed, I am Speed", "1st to the finish", "Racing Machine", racing flags within a circle, the number "95", trophy with wings, straight road, curved road, construction cone, "off road mayhem", "Vroom", checkered racing flags, traffic hanging light, tires sign, tire, "Pit Stop" sign, fire hydrant, army badge, "Hot Roddin" sign, "Radiator Springs" sign, gas pump, fire design, and Texas long horns for the front of your car. WOW! That is a lot of extras--think of all the cards or projects you could do with all the images on this cartridge.

Check out next week as I continue to explore this cartridge and discover all the fun projects you can do with it. Happy Cricuting!
