SPRING, SPRING, SPRING

Counter to the expectations of the popular saying, March came in like a lamb and is going out like a lion. While the weather roars on with the lions, I find myself very motivated to hum along with my Cricut machines.

Signs, calendars, cards, layouts, bridal and baby shower invites, graduation decorations, potty training charts, thank you's, your welcome's, miss you's, buckets, banners, and frames. Whatever the reason, whatever the motivation, keep crafting and don't look back. Jump into your crafty mode and go, go, go! Let those creative juices flow.

This week, be sure to check out Crafty Kimber's cartridge exploration of the new Happy Graduation and Father's Day Seasonal cartridges. As always, I wish you well in your crafting adventures.

Stephanie's Project: Weather Calendar

Cartridges Used:
- Create a Critter
- Stretch your Imagination
- Alphalicious
- Dreams Come True

Instructions: Use the Alphalicious cartridge to cut out months, days, numbers, and headings with matching colored paper. Seasons need to be cut out using the Stretch your Imagination cartridge, and the weather pieces are cut out using a combination of the Stretch your Imagination, Create a Critter, and Dreams Come True cartridges. With hot glue, apply felt strips to a painted poster board. Laminate the individual pieces and then apply the rough side of sticky Velcro strips in order to secure them to the felt.

YOUR NOTABLE TIP

Today's helpful tip comes from message board member and Bug Guide, Narelle. Thanks for the tip!

Q. I am having trouble trying to figure out the cuts to use on the Twinkle Toes cartridge for the right layering effect. What size are the body, hair, arms, and legs are supposed to be cut? I am using the Cricut DesignStudio software, but I am a fairly new user. Please help, I am trying to cut the dancers for a scrapbook page layout. I want them about three inches tall. Any help is appreciated.

A. First make sure Real Size is not checked (it's under the Cricut DesignStudio keypad). Set the size of your base image (3") using the Default Size slider under the keypad. Leave it at that size for all your layers. They will then be cut in proportion to your base image.

CARTRIDGE EXPLORATION

This week the spring cleaning bug hit again, only it was in my craft room this time. I spent some time putting things away and organizing my ribbons so I could find them when I am crafting. It was so nice to put some order back into the chaos, but the order won't last long! I also explored the new Happy Graduation and Father's Day Seasonal cartridges.

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerThe new batch of Seasonal cartridges are here! If you know of anyone who is graduating from high school or college, this is the cartridge for you. It has a variety of images that have a wonderfully adorable owl carrying a diploma, holding up a parchment (this would be perfect for a party invitation!), and with a graduation cap. There is also a birdhouse, a ribbon, a graduation cap, a diploma, and three banners that say "You Did It," "Congrats," and "Graduation." There are two types of cupcake holders, a huge "Congratulations!" banner and a 3-D box. Don't forget that each of these images can be layered; you will want to cut the base layer in a darker color, and your lighter color will be the Layer button. This will make your cuts really pop!

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerFather's Day is just around the corner. Okay, it's really not, but if you want to get a jump on those Father's Day cards, you'll need this gem of a cartridge. It covers so many different hobbies that there is sure to be a few images that are perfect for that special man in your life. A few examples are: a barbeque, an easy chair, a beer can, bowling balls, a tool box, a basketball with a hoop, a baseball with a bat, a golf club with a golf ball, fishing gear, a motorcycle, a hunting rifle, a boat, a race car, a remote control, and poker cards with chips. Each of these images come with a layer feature, so you can add some color and dimension to your projects. You can also cut a few phrases that are included in this cartridge: "Best Dad Ever," "Happy Father's Day," "Man Card," "Game Night," "Super Dad," "Man Cave," and "My Guy." Each of these phrases comes in either a crest shape or an oval, so the artist included a solid image of both of these shapes to help you layer your phrases.

That wraps up this exploration. Remember, if you have any fun projects that are made with any of the Cricut cartridges, you can share them on the Cricut message board. Check back next week and see what I explore next!
