...AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It's that time of year when many people set goals and make resolutions that will improve their lives...if they follow through with them. One of my favorite resolutions for 2011 is to make this year my personal best scrapping and crafting year yet. I'd say that this resolution is on the opposite end of the list where you would find "Lose 10 pounds." Who knows? Perhaps I'll be having so much fun using Cricut products that I'll forget all about eating yummy snacks, and keep two resolutions at once.

Why not make this New Year your personal "best crafting and scrapping year yet"? Your resolution will be easily accomplished with the ease and fun that Cricut can provide to your crafting experience.

This week, be sure to enjoy clever crafty tips on making a snowman without going out in the snow, and check out Crafty Kimber's exploration of the Wrap it Up, Paper Lace, Snapshot: Texture, Snapshot: Everyday, and Snapshot: Nature cartridges. As always, I wish you well in your crafting adventures.

Claire's Project: Princess Pillow Cake

Cartridges Used:
- Elegant Cakes
- Storybook

Instructions: This princess pillow cake was made for a good friend's little girl's 10th birthday. I baked the cake in 8" square pans and iced them bottom to bottom, leaving the dome part intact. I shaped the sides of the cake to look like a fluffy pillow and crumb coated it ready for the fondant. After reading several posts on the Cake chat room I made some marshmallow fondant and covered the cake. It was perfect! I made the cords and tassels by hand and painted them with gold glimmer dust. I cut the princess tiara and the little girls name from Storybook and the sentiment from Elegant Cakes. Then after reading a few more posts on the Cake chat room and videos, I attempted to make my pillow look quilted with edible seed pearls. Sydney loved her special cake and the whole evening was smiles. Thank you Provo Craft for the Cricut Cake. It really makes a difference when you can professionally personalize a cake for that special person!

YOUR NOTABLE TIP

Your Notable Tipspacer

Today's fun tip comes from message board member MichellePetersen2. Thanks for sharing this clever craft idea!

"I got this idea from AdminBecky. I used George and Basic Shapes to cut the circles and hat (square and rectangle welded with Cricut DesignStudio), Joys of the Season for the arms and Winter Woodland for the holly (red stickles for the berries), the nose is cut freehand, brads for eyes and a ribbon scarf, all pop dotted together. There is a large peppermint patty underneath the bottom circle (and there is another circle of the same size beneath that to sandwich it)." Click here to see the original post!

CARTRIDGE EXPLORATION

I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday weekend! I had a grand time crafting and opening presents, though my dogs had the most fun: eating the dog treats I kept giving them so they would leave me alone so I could craft. Along with unwrapping presents I also explored some new Cricut and Cricut Imagine cartridges: Wrap it Up, Paper Lace, Snapshot: Texture, Snapshot: Everyday, and Snapshot: Nature cartridges.

Snapshot: Nature, Texture, and Everyday are all Cricut Imagine cartridges designed to help the crafter print paper with realistic snapshot images. Each cartridge comes with 20 different coordinating patterns that fit the three different topics.

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerThe Texture cartridge is full of a variety of patterns such as: diagonal lines, tire tread, blue jeans, small bathroom tiles, paint splatters, red brick wall, wood grains, and metal rust.

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerThe Nature cartridge has pictures of a variety of wood grains, sunflowers, fall leaves, running water, sand mounds, sunset clouds, green grass, river rock wall, river bottom pebble stones, and lake ice cracking.

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerThe Everyday cartridge has examples of oranges, strawberries, tennis balls, baseballs, rubber ducks, chocolate chip cookies, basketballs, a hardwood floor, apples, money coins, and roses.

Don't forget that all three of these cartridges also include fourteen solid colors that match of the different themes. These make great backgrounds for all of your scrapbook pages, or even a fun personalized envelope!

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerI also spent some time exploring the Wrap it Up cartridge. This is a full cartridge and the creative features are: Layer, Phrase, Box, Card, Tag, and Tag Blackout. This cartridge is full of images that cover all the holidays, plus other special occasions. For example, you can cut a baby stroller, school house, monster, spider, wedding bells, castle, pirate ship, golf clubs, balloons, stork, clown, witch, football, and graduation cap. Each of the images will cut out a base layer, and you can add in the Shift and Layer buttons for additional layers. Phrases include: "Happy Mother's Day," "Schools Out," "Happy Couple," "Good Luck," "Welcome Little One," "You Rock," and "Just Married." You can also cut each of the images out in boxes or cards when you have the Box or Card creative feature button pressed.

Cartridge Exploration Featured ProjectspacerPaper Lace was the last cartridge that I explored over my holiday week. The designs on this cartridge are all intricate and detailed. They are so beautiful and would be amazing with any type of a wedding project! A few examples of other images are: flowers, diamonds, big flowers, leaf border, and flower border. Word art includes: "You're Invited," "Thank You," "Happy Birthday," "Get Well Soon," "Celebrate," and "I love You." The creative features for this cartridge are: Lace 1 (square), Lace 2 (round), Font, Base Shadow, Lace 1 Shadow, and Lace 2 Shadow. When I first realized there was font included with this cartridge I was so excited! The style of the font is clean, feminine lines. You have upper and lower case letters plus numbers and some symbols. Also, under this creative feature, are some charm. For example: heart charm, square charm, flower charm, and ten other shapes.

Well, that wraps up this exploration. I hope you enjoy playing with these new cartridges as much as I have this past week. I wish you all a Happy New Year and happy crafting!
