Painters tape – To take the back of the layout for ease in construction. Seaweed Using your Gypsy, select the Cricut App. Tap the New Project icon You will then select your mat size. Tap the 24x12 mat and you are now ready to design. Select the height and change the number from a 1 to 5. You can do this by tapping on the number. You will then see a key pad appear towards the bottom of the screen. Once this pops up, tap the number keypad and it will open a new window. When the window opens tap the number 5 and then select OK. . You have now changed the height of your cursor You are now to select the Cricut Cartridge that you are wanting to cut from. In the bottom right hand corner you will see a keypad overlay. Tap this and it will open a new window. You will see a keypad with the name under it in a white box. Tap the white box and another screen is going to open. You will then see a list of Cricut Cartridges available. Using the scroll at the right side you can scroll through the cartridges. You can also touch the white part of the screen and drag your stylus. This allows you to look through the cartridges at a much slower pace. Find the Life’s a Beach cartridge and tap on it’s name. You now have the Life’s A Beach Keypad overlay on your screen. Tap the Shift/Lock key and select the seaweed. It is the 3rd key over from the right, 2nd key up from the bottom. Tap the key 10 times so you end up with 10 seaweeds on your mat . Tap the Mat key in the bottom right hand corner and it will take you back to your mat. You now have a bunch of rectangles on your mat more than likely because the images are too wide for your screen. Tap on Basic to bring up. Under the Width and Height boxes you will see an aspect ratio key that looks like chain links. Tap on this and turn it from yellow to white. Once you have done this you can now tap on the Width box and change this number to 11.25 by using the key pad that opens up below it. We are now going to position where are the mat we want to put out images. You can drag them by using your stylus or there is an easier way to do this. Select the X box. Tap on the number and change it to .25 and then click OK. Tap on the Y box and change the number to 6.60. Just to double check, Make sure your keys now read as the following: X: 0.25 Y: 6.65 Width: 10.90 Height: 5.00 Once you have your images in the correct place, Tap on the Advanced Tab. You will see an icon that looks like 2 squares overlapping each other. This is the Copy/Paste key. Tap it once and you will see a new copy of the seaweed appear overtop of the original ones. Just above the Copy/Paste key you will see and icon that looks like 2 arrows pointing at each other. Tap this key once and you have just flipped your image. Do not touch your mat screen at this point. Instead, go back to the Basic Tab and change your x and Y coordinates to X: 12.25 and Y: 6.60 Your images should be on the second half of your mat now. You are now ready to save this mat so it can be cut. Your right hand images keys should now read: X: 12.25 Y: 6.65 Width: 10.90 Height: 5.00 Press the round silver circle key. It is going to pop up menu options. Select Save As and title this project as Ocean – Dark Green Seaweed When you cut this mat, choose 2 different colors of dark Seaweedy green to cut from. This seaweed will be the background seaweed. We are now going to take this same mat and alter it to resave it in another size. When you save it again, REMEMBER TO RENAME IT!!! Tap on the first set of seaweed. This should turn the seaweed blue. If you have one that turns purple, tap somewhere else on the image until you see it turn blue again. We are now going to turn our aspect ratio back on by selecting the chain links under the width and height . Tap it once so it turn yellow again. You now have your width and height aspect ratio locked so when we change our height, it will change the width at the same time. Change the height to 4.00 Your width will automatically become 9.20 Do this for both sides of the seaweed. For the first set of seaweed on the left side of the mat your numbers should read as follows: X: 0.25 Y: 7.5 Width: 9.20 Height: 4.00 The Seaweed on the right should read as: X: 12.25 Y: 7.5 Width: 9.20 Height: 4.00 Tap the Silver Circle button and tap SAVE AS!!! Do Not Click Save! You do not want to lose your first saved mat! Save this mat as Ocean – Medium Green Seaweed We are going to be making one more set of Seaweed for this layout so now you are going to once again make sure your aspect ratio key is still on my checking to see if it still yellow. If it is, tap of the left set of seaweed and make sure it turns blue. Change your Height to 3.00 and your width will automatically change to 6.90 Change your X to 0.25 and your Y to 8.50 Do the same for the second set of seaweed. The left set of seaweed should read: X: 0.25 Y: 8.5 Width: 6.90 Height: 3.00 The right set of seaweed should read: X: 12.25 Y: 8.5 Width: 6.90 Height: 3.00 Tap the silver circle button and select SAVE AS. Name this file as Ocean – Light Green Seaweed Scuba Diver Tap the Silver button again and select NEW and choose a 24X12 mat. Change your height to 7.00 Select the Life’s a Beach Cartridge again and tap on the Scuba Diver. It is the 1st key over from the right, 2nd one down from the top. Now select the layers function key which is a purple key. It is the 1st key on the top row from the left. Once you select it, it will turn Orange. You will now go back to the Scuba Diver key and select this key 4 times. Select your mat again and you will see a bunch of images on your mat. If you do not see them for some reason, try changing your X coordinate to 0.25 We have all of these items grouped now and will be wanting to cut them out of different colors. One way this can be achieved is by tapping on one thing at a time until it turn purple. Once it is purple, you can move the image around your page independently. Tap on your last layer put on the mat until it turn purple. Touching it with your stylus, you can now drag it around your screen. You can place it this way or you can place it by changing your X and Y coordinates. Change your X to 18.50 and your Y to -1.46 Tap the next image until it turns purple and change it’s X to 18.50 and Y: 4.50 The 3rd image would be X: 12.50 and Y: -1.46 and the 4th would be X: 12.50 and Y: 4.5. You can now cut 6x6 pieces of paper and place them on the second half of your mat and have your layers cut out for your scuba diver. I am choosing Clack for the flippers and face mask, blonde for the hair, Orange for the Swim trunks and Blue for the swim trunks stripe. Tap your scuba diver now and change his X and Y to X: 0.25 and Y: 4.5 You will cut your scuba diver out of a flesh toned paper that is at least 9”x 8” Save this file as Ocean – Scuba Diver Mermaid Open a new file by tapping the silver button again and create a new file. Change your height to 6” Select the Keypad over lay and choose the Life’s a Beach cartridege. Select the Mermaid. It is the 1st key over from the left, 2nd one down from the top. Tap the image once and then go to the layers key just like you did for the scuba diver. It will be the top left hand corner function key. Tap it and it will turn Orange. Select the Mermaid key again 3 times and then choose the mat key from the bottom right hand corner of the screen. You now have 1 mermaid and 3 layers on your mat. Select the X and Y coordinates and change them to X: 0.25 and Y: 5.50 Tap on the Furthest image to the right and turn it purple. Change it’s coordinates to X: 18.50 and Y: 5.50 Tap the next image and change its coordinates to X: 12.50 and Y: 5.50 Tap the 3rd image and change its coordinates to X: 6.50 and Y: 5.50 Choose the following papers for the mermaid: Skin 6x7 Hair 6x7 Tail and top 6x7 Flower 6x7 Click the silver button and save the file as Ocean – Mermaid Click the silver button again and choose a new file. Photo Mat Shadows and Words Select a new mat Choose Gypsy Wanderings as your cartridge Tap of the Second from the top left function key. It will look like a scalloped Square and once selected will turn from purple to orange. Tap the rectangle key. It is the 2nd over from the left on the top row. Select the Mat key in the bottom right hand corner and go back to your mat. The Gypsy has a small bug currently that will not allow you so select the correct width without adding .3 to .4 to each inch you want to cut so instead of making out rectangle 5 inches wide, we are going to make it 5.19 inches wide. Once this has been cut is will actually be 5 inches wide. Hopefully in the near future this “bug” will be fixed. Make sure your aspect ratio button is white and not yellow. Remember, this is located underneath the width and height area and looks like 3 chains linked together. Change your width to 5.19 and your Height to7.00 You will now change your X and Y coordinates to the following X: 0.25 Y: 4.65 While your image is still in blue, tap on the advanced screen and choose the Copy/Paste icon. Change your X and Y coordinates to X: 5.32 Y: 4.65 Repeat this 2 more times making your next 2 X and Y coordinates as follows: X: 12.54 Y: 4.65 X: 17.61 Y: 4.65 You now have all 4 Photo Mat Shadows on your mat and are ready to create your words for your layout. Tap on your screen somewhere the Photo Mat Shadows are not. The images on the screen will turn black. Tap the keypad overlay icon. Choose Gypsy Font from the cartridge list. Type the words FISHY FUN. Tap back on your mat icon and place the words on your mat. Change the height to 1.5 and your width to 11.25 Change your X and Y coordinates to: X: 0.28 Y: 3.02 You will then click the silver button and save your mat as Ocean Photo Mat Shadow and Words. Photo Mats Using the Ocean – Photo Mat Shadow File you are going to change it to reflect the following coordinates. Be sure to make sure your aspect ratio is turned off and make sure you type in the width and height in before you type in the X and Y coordinations. Tap each rectangle starting on the left and type in the following coordinates. X: 0.22 Y: 5.19 Width: 4.67 Height: 6.50 X: 5.01 Y: 5.04 Width: 4.67 Height: 6.50 X: 12.79 Y: 5.19 Width: 4.67 Height: 6.5 X: 17.58 Y: 5.19 Width: 4.67 Height: 4.5 Tap on the words FISHY FUN and click the X on the Basic tab to delete the FISHY FUN words. Once this is complete, click the silver button and choose SAVE AS and RENAME the file Ocean – Photo Mats Coral Tap the Silver button and Select New file. Change your height to 5.5 and select Life’s A Beach from the cartridge list. Once this has been selected you will select the Coral from the keypad. It is the 4th row over from the right, 2nd one up from the bottom. Select this 4 times and put them on your mat. Once the coral is on your mat, you are going to change your X and Y coordinates to X: .43 Y:6.19 You are then going to tap the 3rd image from the left and change your coordingates to X:12.32 and Y:6.19 Tap the 4th image and change it’s coordinates to X: 17.63 and Y: 6.19 Tap on the image to make it all turn blue again and then select the Advanced tab. Tap on the Copy/Paste and make a copy of your Coral. Once you have the copy created do not tap the mat. Instead, go back to the basic tab and change your X and Y coordinates to X: 0.25 Y: 0.33 Click the silver button and Choose SAVE AS. Label this file as Ocean – Coral You will cut your coral out of very bright colors. I chose to use Pink, Orange, Purple, Yellow, Green and Teal Crabs and Sea Horses Click the silver button again and choose new file. Change your height to 1 inch. Choose the Life’s A Beach Cartridge Tap the Shift/Lock key and select the Crab. It is the bottom left key. Put 7 to 8 of these on your mat. Change your coordinates to X:0.25 Y: 10.5 Tap on the screen away from your crabs, Change your height to 1.5 and go back to your keypad overlay again. This time select the Seahorse. It is the 3rd key over from the bottom right. 2nd Key up from the bottom. Select this key 5 times and go back to your mat. Change your X and Y coordinates to X: 0.25 Y: 4.21 You will cut the crabs out of red and the sea horses out of a very light yellow. Select the silver key and save your file as Ocean – Crabs and Sea Horses Create a new file and select Life’s A Beach. Select the Shift/Lock key and Select the Turlte that is the 2nd over from the bottom right. You want to cut this and it’s layer at 5.5 inches. Place the layers on the page and move the images around so you can cut the body out of light green and the layers out of dark green. Save this file as Ocean - turtle Create a new file and select the Life’s a Beach cartridge. Select the fish and fill your whole mat with various sizes ranging from 1 inch up to 3 inches of fish. You can change the aspect ration to make some of them short and far some of them might be neat being long and skinny. You can also add shells and star fish on this page to be colored later. Once you have filled your mat you will save the file as Ocean – Fish Cut these out of White. We are now ready to assemble our layout. I use painters tape on the back of my 12x12 paper to hold the 2 pieces together for easy assembly. Tape your 2 pieces of Teal paper on the back making sure to line them up. Cut your Sand colored cardstock into 3 inch strips. Once you have the strips, tear 2 of them so you have your first sand layer. Only glue along the bottom edge of the sand. Make sure you leave the rough area unglued. Starting with the darkest seaweed, layer 5 pieces of the seaweed along the back of the layout. You only want to glue the very bottom of the seaweed to you can layer things under in later. Take your next lightest color and add 5 to 7 pieces of it in the same way. Layer your photo mats with their shadows and place these on you layout glueing only the very middle of the photo mat down. To not over glue or you will not be able to tuck all the layers in later!!! Now, Starting with the medium green seaweed add more layers and then start tucking in your coral here and there. You are welcome to use the layout photo for reference as to where to place them. You may find that cutting the round ones in half will be very useful. Set your layout aside for a moment and assemble your Turtle, Scuba Diver and Mermaid. You will also want to color your fish at this time too. Once these items have been assembled and decorated you will start placing your fish in various places tucking them into the seaweed. Cutting them in half and making them swim off the page or tucking them under the photo mats. Place your turtle in the top right hand corner of your page. Your Scuba diver will go in the top right and your Mermaid on the left side of the right page. Add a layer of torn sand and add more seaweed and coral on the page. Add the last layer of sand and tuck the words Fishy Fun just under the edge of the sand. Add the Crabs, Sea Horses and Starfish. Sign the bottom right hand side of your page, add your photo and cherish this page for years to come!
