before you screen print them? I normally do because I'm only doing 1 or 2 but now I have a large order and I was just wondering if it is really necessary. I know that the instructions reccommend that you wash and line dry before you screen print but again is it really necessary?? If you don't wash them, did you have any problems with the print fading quickly?

Never & Nope. Didn't even know they say you should. Hmmm. I have done shirts for the soccer team, the whole church, friends, races all is well. I know that a few of our shirts were some we had around so they would have been washed and I've never seen a difference in wear. Hope that helps. I have found this to be a very forgiving art. It's just not hard once you figure out emulsion. Have fun and don't forget to show us your results!!

So quick to answer and I like your answer that takes some of the pressure off of me. That "line dry" thing takes a while so it was taking about 2 days to do 1 or 2 shirts. I will post a pic when I finish, but it is a simple design.

I always thought you had to wash it first to get the sizing off so that it sticks. Hmmmm this would be huge time saver if you don't have to.

I crank out shirts. You wouldn't believe how quick I turn these things out. My family thinks it's pretty funny.
If you are "line drying" the ink just use a heat gun to quickly dry your ink (I still heat set with an iron). Ink usually dries in about 20-30 mins without help.
Sometimes I read people's instructions and it almost feels like they are adding steps to make it seem more complicated and therefore they are better artists. I don't get it. I use cheap shirts from J's so I guess I'm not doing a lot of 100% cotton. It doesn't hurt to wash them but it isn't like sewing where you need to wash before using.
To keep your print make sure you heat set really well. I do 3-5 mins on each side of the print.
Have fun!!

I wash mine and throw them in the drier. They say to wash the shirts to remove the starches they put on them when they are made. If you don't wash them they say that this will cause the inks to fade faster. Something like that anyway. I'm washing mine. The line dry thing is news to me. I still will be drying them in the dryer.
