I just found out today that I got assigned to 3rd grade. In Oklahoma this is a big testing year for the Spring semester. I am glad that I have a good enough rapport for them to trust me with the kiddos during "testing" time. Does anyone else do big testings in 3rd grade? Any advice for a new and nervous student teacher?! I start on Monday (Jan. 10th) and am soooooo excited! Any tips or prayers are GREATLY appreciated!

You will love third grade!!! Make sure they have memorized their multiplication tables. i have a bulletin board with a Magician from PDDU. Each child has a magician hat and they put a rabbit in it everytime they pass a test. ( they have to get 100% on a test of 50 problems in 5 minutes) Now that over half my students have passed they will get a magician and become Multiplication Macigians. Now I have to come upwith something for Division. Last year the kids had a car with them driving and drove from sign to sign through a city scape. The year before I made monkeys from New Arrival and they got a banana everytime they passed. One year they had a spaceship and they moved from planet to planet as they passed.

Good Luck student teaching. 3rd grade starts all the "big" tests across the country because of NCLB. they're mandated to give math and reading tests each year from 3-8th.

You will LOVE third grade! With multiplication and division, we used every opportunity to practice our tables. Even in line for our restroom break, I would (in my own hushed voice) ask..."Very quietly and by holding up your hand, who can tell me what 4 x 4 is?" The kids loved it and would always want to answer. We would play multiplication baseball when we finished a lesson early. I sometimes miss teaching the little darlings... Have fun!

You will be wonderful! Teaching third grade has brought such happiness to me! The students are still super engaged and they really love doing projects (it is a great age to teach) It amazes me every year to watch how they mature after January and then when they leave your classroom in June-they are ready for 4th! You will rock it!!! :) Wendy http://cricutyourclassroom.com
