Hi Everyone! I received an Expression for Christmas and I'm really looking forward to learning how to use it. It's a bit intimidating...I've been reading some of the posts here and looking for ideas...any suggestions to get me started??? Happy New Year!

Hi Linda, Don't worry, i think we all felt the same once our cricut expressions were unpacked from the box, but once you get to know your machine everything will become second nature to you. I found the best way is to get to know your machine. Play with the different cartridges, different speeds, pressure settings and so on. Also, if you can, get hold Cricut Design Studio which makes things a lot easier when you starting out, but bear in mind that you'll only be able to cut with the cartridges you own. I'm also new to this community and I have found everyone to be extremely friendly and helpful. Good luck and enjoy your machine. It's filled with loads of endless fun and possibilities

Welcome to the message board! My only advice would be to practice with the machine. (with cheap paper) LOL You'll get the hang of it quickly, I'm sure!

I'm in the same boat you are! I just got the expression for christmas too and i am still trying to figure it out. I have the design studio too and I would highly recommend it!!! what i'm doing is doing one project on a time from in the books, and also look on youtube for videos to show you what to do! There are thousands of videos!

Welcome MNmamma  I've had my cricut now for about 2 months and for the first week i went through stacks of paper that i thankfully bought really cheap at an expo we had in Oct/Nov. Google and YouTube are awesome when you looking for information regarding your cricut or any other interest.

I have found that when trying to figure out what size to use I use just regular copy paper it is not 12x12 but it gives me an idea of what size to cut something at. Hope this helps and have lots of fun.

Welcome to another New Jersey Bug owner! Hope you are having fun with your machine. I does take a little time to get used to. I find that I am much happier now that I own a gypsy. I didn't think I was going to get a gypsy when I first got my machine this summer but I found out I was wrong  . I enjoy using the G to plan and cut my projects. I don't have to hunt for the carts I need for one cut. No putting in and out of the machine. Can't wait to see your projects. Gina

Welcome new users! The best thing is to read the few pages in the User Manual that explain what the buttons do and then cut something! A good place to start is with the cart handbook that came with the cart included with your machine. The first few pages of the handbook explain a little about the carts and then there is a project or two with instructions. Making those projects will give you a feel for your machine and what it can do and what you can create. From there, let your imagination run wild!
