I waqtched the video and was doing the beginning project with them. I placed scrapbook paper on the mat and did the cut like they explained. When I went to take the paper off the mat the paper stuck to it and wouldn't come off...I still have a lot of little pieces stuck on the mat. I used the tools to get most of it off but afraid to do it again. Is there a certain kind of paper you have to use? I know hard cardstock but should it work with regular scrapbook paper?

The mats can be super sticky at first. Some people hug them so their shirts fuzz makes them less sticky. Also some use Cricut Dan's advice http://cricutdan.blogspot.com/search/label/stickyI clean my mats with baby wipes when they start to loose their stick. Just let them dry and they work great. Hope this helps. Also you will want a cricut spatula. I don't know what I would do without mine. Edited by user Saturday, December 25, 2010 8:21:39 PM(UTC)

Welcome Dawn! You are going to enjoy your machine. I really wish that PC would tell you to season your new mats before you use them it saves a lot of tears and for the newbies. I had the same problem when I started this summer.I was in tears because my paper( I used construction paper that was too thin and had gold thread sparkles in it)and I thought I wrecked my mat and I didn't have money or time to get a new one! When I came to the mb I learned about seasoning your mat and cleaning it . As well as marking the plastic cling cover for the mat before you take it off for the first time(you should mark the outside of the cover that protects the mat because I think the bottom is staticly attracted to the mat while the top won't stick as well) Read the board and ask questions there are a lot of wonderful and talented people here who are always willing to help! I got my spatula right after I got my machine. It really makes it so much easier to get off intricate cuts and tiny pieces off my mats. They sell them at Michaels or JoAnns in the Cricut section for about $5 or $6.

I can't use my Cricut w/o the spatula! The cheapest I've seen it is at WM--unfortunately my M's is more than $5 or $6.
Welcome to the wonderful Cricut world!!
PM me and I'll send you a table of settings to use for different medias. I made this table for my sister & I with info I saw on a blog.Edited by user Tuesday, December 28, 2010 2:27:31 PM(UTC)
