How to get "frosted" look for glass blocks?

I am loving all of the glass blocks but notice that most have a frosted look...Can you all share how that is done?

Hi there! This is my first post! :)
I am in the process of making my first blocks. I quickly realized after I put the lights in, that it was too busy and bright to see the monogram I put on the block. I went to Michaels (but I'm sure other craft stores have it) and bought a spray can of "Frosted Glass" spray. I got the white color... kind of expensive (10 bucks a can!) but I am hoping it will last a while.

I purchased a can of Frost spray from ACMoore and or Michaels for $5.99 a can but I used my 50% coupon so it was farely cheep. I was able to do about 12 blocks a can front and back.

You can also use etching cream, I use armour etch....leave it on for a good half hour. This will give a permanent "frosted" look. I hear the spray can eventually scrape off, but I don't know from experience!! Good Luck

I've been using frosted vinyl. I got it from a local sign company. Goes on just like regular vinyl and looks like frosted glass. It mutes the lights just right and if you use white lights you can't see the cord at all. I just cut a square and cover the entire front of the block. Sorry the photos are so blurry! I use privacy film that you use on windows. It comes in a very large roll and takes so little to do one block that it will last me forever.

I've also heard that you can get frosted look contact paper - which is cheaper than vinyl.

I also etch mine, but contact paper would probably be the cheapest way to go.

Cool ... I thought I was going to come on here and give advice, and I ended up getting advice. I didn't know that you could buy frosted vinyl or frosted contact paper, and I didn't even think about privacy screen ... all great ideas.
I have used etching cream and frosted spray paint. I find the spray paint scratches off pretty easy, so I liked the etching cream best. But, I'm going to try the other ideas too.

I've etched the blocks, but my favorite is to put vellum inside the blocks...no streaking that you tend to get sometimes with the etching creme. I've never tried the frosted spray, but have heard that it will scratch off?

Some great ideas for frosting the blocks. I have used the spray paint and yes it does rub off. Used the etching creme too, works good. But after Christmas I started playing around with vellum, after hearing about it on this community. Didn't have colored vellum and wanted yellow/orange. So I used my Tim Holtz alcohol inks and dabbed them with two colors, cut the vellum to size, rolled up and slipped it in the precut hole in the block.

UpNative, How do you keep the vellum up against the glass on the inside? I also usually do both sides of the block. Do the lights keep it in place? I like this idea and would like to try it.

I have used the spray and haven't had any problems. I even had to re-arrange my vinyl and none of it lifted from the block. I have gave many as gifts and all are looking great.

I have used StazOn opaque in the cotton white. I saw this on youtube and its looked easly.. check out the two I did
