I'm borrowing a Cricut Create - it's only been used once before. I've spent some time learning to use it the last two days, and have only cut DCWV cardstock so far. When I pull the cardstock off of the mat after cutting, the back of the cardstock and diecuts are covered in crumbs of sticky goo from the mat. Is this normal? It comes off with an adhesive pickup square, but it's time consuming to clean all of the scraps as well as the shapes.

Yes, unfortunately that is common with some new mats. As you wear off the extra adhesive it will stop doing that.

One of the guys that worked at AC Moore showed me a trick, take off the mat cover and "knead" the mat before its first use. Using the palms of your hands walk your hands all over the mat. It tones down the extreme stickiness.
I also do not know if I can name a brand name, (If not please let me know) but I found some scrapbook paper at Target that is awesome for on the mats and it cuts fabulously. Its Wausau. I use it exclusively for my black. The paper has a very flat condensed feel to it and this leaves almost no residue on your mat at all. It does not come in all colors and designs but I found that if I start off cutting with a paper like this then eventually move to others that the mat lasts a lot longer.
I have not tried the cricut brand paper yet but want to try it...how does it cut? Anyone know?
