Im a newbie to scrapbooking, cardmaking, and really the whole cricut itself. I am starting out small, doing little cards and books since my husband is deploying, the kids want to make him a book before he goes. I just cant see spending 400 on the expression. I found a place online that I can get the Create and the Personal cutter for online payments, but I would like to hear what you have all found to work best. I dont have a big office to set up, and I am on a budget as well. Any suggestions?

You can get the Expression for less than $400.00. Have you looked at Walmart. Online they have the Expression priced at $254.00. You can have them shipped to your local store for free. They also have the Create for $150.00 if that is more affordable. I like the expression because I didn't want to be limited and wanted to make gift bags and things. I don't know of anywhere but HSN selling them with pay plans. Of course it will cost you more in the long run. If you don't plan to do anything fancy or big the create would be fine. It can do a few more tricks than the Original.

I purchased my "E" on Amazon.com for $275.00. It came with everything needed and two cartridges. Ive also just purchased the "Create" for my 10 year old off of Amazon for Christmas. Got tired of her bugging me to use mine all of the time(lol) and since she really loves scrapping and making cards with me...I figured why not. I think the prices are very resonable and the service is always great.
Hope this helps

I bought the personal, thinking that was all I would need.
Now I wish I had got the Expression! But I am planning on getting the Expression/Your Story bundle, with three carts for $299.99 canadian.

I also agree to get the Expression. It has many more features than the smaller bugs, and you can cut up to 24 inches with the larger mat. I have seen the Expression for $249.00 at Walmart. I would think with Black Friday coming ( the shopping day after Thanksgiving), you may get a better price than that. Try looking online too. My DD got hers from OhMyCrafts.com on sale with free shipping. Good luck on whatever you decide to buy.

I just got my create in January. I already regret not spending the extra $ for an expression. Why you ask? Well for instance I want to make Christmas cards. Can do more cuts with expression. My daughter is always wanting me to make extra animals with create a critter and it would be so much easier on the expression to do a lot of them. Plus, if you want to do bigger cards, bags or boxes you really need the expression.

If at all possible, go for the Expression. Most of us started with the original, but ended up with the E later anyway. If you start w the smaller one, it won't be long before you'll wish you would have gone for the E...it happens. (Most of the time...) Don't pay $400...and never pay full price for a cart. If you are patient, as the carts get older and newer ones come out, you can usually get them reasonably online. I'd check out some of the online site for the E as well. Good luck in your decision!

Definitely get the Expression. Check on EBAY (if you trust EBAY.) I was looking earlier tonight there are some great deals on Expression bundles. If I didn't alreay have one, I might have bid on one. Like most of us, when the E first came out I kept saying I don't need it, don't want it, won't buy it. Well, about a month after it came out I ordered it and am so glad I did. I kept my baby bug and am going to set it up for my 7yo granddaughter to use when she comes to my house - she loves to craft. Edited by user Wednesday, October 06, 2010 10:17:55 PM(UTC)

eBay is the way to go. I've seen Expressions go for less than 200.00 They have some fantastic bundles. Plus, bidding is fun. Don't forget your purchase is secure with Paypal. If you don't have a Paypal account, it's easy to sign up. The Expression definitely. You won't be satisfied with the Create.

Well, if you're "really" strapped for cash:
I saw a Baby Bug at M's earlier this week for $95. Not sure if it was a Columbus day sale or not, but it's a pretty good price for a new Bug.
Joann's has the E on sale right now for just $250
Wal-mart.com has an E for $254 that comes with 2 carts and free shipping site-to-store.
The Baby Bug and the Create are good for going to crops (more portable) or if you are "seriously" limited on space. But the E is much more versatile, especially if you think you'll be making large quantities of stuff like invitations or Christmas cards or if you want to make large cuts.
Don't even consider paying full retail for your Cricut (or any of your scrapbooking supplies). The E pops up all the time for $250 at M's, J's and some of the other retail craft stores. And they always have 40% or 50% off coupons to use on your accessories (can't use them on the machine). If that's still too high you can try E-bay or Craig's List if you're comfortable with them. But if you can swing the $250, I'd go for the Wal-mart deal. You'll get two carts instead of one, and you get a 90-day return policy, so you won't have to live with buyer's remorse.
HTH. And let us know what you decide to get.
