The worst part about company coming for the Holidays is having to do a really good job cleaning up the house.Angry

And, I don't mind that at all. That's when our home gets the DEEPEST CLEANING of the year (or several times a year, if I host two of the main holidays). I LOVE THAT. I pull out the refrigerator and stove (which get cleaned very thoroughly), clean my grouting on our tile floors, clean out drawers and closet floors, clean under things more than usual, etc.! I LOVE THAT!

And, to be honest, I have never believed in that old adage....."why clean BEFORE company comes?" bit, because it never seems all that dirty after everyone leaves and we get things back together!

The worst part for me (and some years are worse than others) is not having anyone to clean up forSad My Daughter and her family go to her dad's and SIL's family (both are pretty big) and I have no other living family and DH just has me! So it's always just us and our son the Schnauzer , on the bright side I leave for Black Friday shopping well rested and with a clean house BigGrin

I feel your pain! I make a game of it, if I have a clean house to start with then, I get to decorate and bake!

It's all in the perspective.... even if I hate house cleaning!Tongue

Jenny, we are very small here too family wise. So we invite people who are like us. One year we invited the nuns and had supper and played cards. We had a blast. Even my sixteen year old said we should do this every Christmas because we had so much fun. Our guests always get a small gift, we gave them fuzzy slippers and they so appreciated it! There's always someone who is alone on Christmas. This year, Im expecting that my mom will bring along someone from the Villa where she lives as our guests. Last year, she had a boarder from Africa who was away from his family whom she brought with her.

I never know whom God has decided to send to my table.

I wish I had your problem, we are all we got. Though I used to do the full cleaning too. But the house would really look nice. BJR.

It all depends how messy your family or friends are. lolLOL Flapper LOL

I do agree that a party will make you do the extra cleaning that needs done. I made last weekend a clean the house weekend and we moved furniture and sweep under it. Did some major dusting and etc. Still a bit to get done around here. We are not having a big party but I just want the house spic n span.

You do know there are a lot of stores open on Thanksgiving you could go shopping early. Sorry to hear you don't get to be with your family. Though Di seems to have a great idea of how to spend Thanksgiving.

Same here........ I DO NOT look forward to the holidays.

We already have family who will be staying with us for a week and a half for the Christmas break.

For some "odd" reason, family members from out of town thinks our house is free room and board whenever they visit Huh .

Spending Thanksgiving week to do my deep cleaning.....Not looking forward to it.

Well I work retail so I have a 40 hour work week (even though I am only part-time) with a full shift the night before Thanksgiving. Somehow I have to pull off dinner and have the house cleaned too.

Luckily I have help but I lost a full evening because of a big power outage last night. Maybe I should just turn all the lights off when company comes on Thanksgiving Flapper

When I start to clean, I keep getting distracted, the tv, the computer, crafting of course , the cell, anything that will give me an excuse to do something else. So I might get about 15 minutes of cleaning for every hour.

When I start to clean, I keep getting distracted, the tv, the computer, crafting of course ,reading, anything that will give me an excuse to do something else. So I might get about 15 minutes of cleaning in for every hour. Then on the day company is coming, I am frantically running around trying to make up for it. When my guests arrive, I have just managed cleaning everything, changing my clothes, throwing on my make-up and putting on a happy face. I am literally sweatingI need an intervention.LOL
