The Expression isn't meant to be used with food items like the Cake Machine. The parts are not stainless steel & the paste/fondant would get into unprotected parts. You wouldn't be able to clean it properly. I wouldn't try it myself.

Also I think the rollers that pull the mat in are different.

The woman who brought the idea to PC had been using her machine for years (dedicated to food) “Food Safe” and “Food Grade Materials” seem to be the most evident selling point of the Cake machine, but when you think about it, only the cutting mat and blade come in contact with anything edible. The rollers: push the rubber roller guides on the roller bar. You don’t have to cut them off but just move them to the left, away from the area that makes contact with the mat as it is going through the machine. You must have a deep cut blade and housing dedicated solely for food. Search the popular video channel for cake decorating with your Cricut E and you'll find all the tips you need. Have fun!

Hi There: I have tried it just for fun and the cuts come out pretty decent. It is not food safe and YOU MUST GET THE CRICUT CAKE MAT. I tried it just to check if it works and it does. However, if you are using it because you bake a lot or sell your food, I wouldn't recommend it. You can check out this link with images of what I cut. http://crossmyheartpaper...h-cricut-expression.html
