I just received my Expression today and am really happy to finally have one. As I was setting it up I discovered that the blade housing is not metal like the one in my Baby Bug, but is instead made out of PLASTIC. What's up with that??? This is an expensive machine and the one part that is going to probably get used the most is PLASTIC?? I sure hope they haven't stopped making the metal blade housing and am disappointed that my machine didn't come with a metal one and concerned that it may crack at some point. Is this another way for Provo Craft to try and make money off of us? As if I haven't spent a ton of money on their products already.

I was surprised to see the plastic blade housing as well. I still have my baby bug so will switch with it if I have any problems. Will definitely switch if I ever decide to sell my little guy!

If I run across a metal housing somewhere I think I may pick it up just so I have one in case I ever decide to get another machine. These housings take a major beating, especially on chipboard and such. I don't want to be in the middle of a project and have the housing crack.

Wow, they didn't use to be plastic!! I got my E in July 2007 and the housing is identical to my original Cricut.

I think the blade housing was switched to plastic around the time that the Pink Expression came out. I remember posts on the old MB about it. But no one has said they've had any problems with it being plastic.

well my E is the pink one and was worried about it...I have been thinkiing about using the housing from my baby in my E...don't you think the green would look pretty in my pink machine...if they had a cricut green E I would be all over it

I have the metal one in my Create and I actually bought the deep cut blade housing just so I would have a spare metal one. My blue E has the plastic blade housing and I swear the bottom of it looks like its tilted even though I've taken it in and out many times and it's still the same. I haven't had any trouble cutting with my E but I also feel like my Create is a more robust machine overall. I think the switch to plastic was a small subtle way to cut costs.

Just use the metal one from your other machine. No biggie.
Also realize depending on what type plastics was use some of it is extremely durable.
