I wanted to load the trial version on a computer and I can not seem to find it anymore. Any ideas? Is it no longer available?

The trial version is still available. You can find it at www.cricut.com/cds

I have also been trying to put the trial version on my desktop computer because I have a larger screen there. CDS is originally installed on my laptop, however. The problem I am having with the trial version is the fact that when the installation reaches the point where it wants to install .NET Framework 2.0 it stops because it sees a newer version on my desktop. What I would like to know is this. Is there a way to get around this problem? I know it could be dangerous to unistall the .NET Framwork 2.0 version that is already on the computer because other programs may be using it as well. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Toni Abernethy

From what I have learned (isn't Google a wonderful thing) installing .net framework 2 won't uninstall later versions. We have all versions of the net framework on our computers. Have a look at your c:/windows/microsoft.net/framework directory and you'll see that you have more than one version there.
I'd go ahead and install it because DS needs it to run.
Good luck!

Thank you GirlFrom OZ. Like I said when the DS installation gets to the .NET Framework part it just stops and won't let me continue. So how can I install DS it if the installation program won't let me continue. I have downloaded just the .net framwork file from the internet and tried to run it and the same thing happens when it sees the other versions. ALL COMES TO A HAULT. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks again for you response. Toni Edited by user Friday, October 08, 2010 10:20:55 AM(UTC)

Thanks Toni. I was just about to ask you for that! Could you tell me what version of Windows you are running? XP SP1, XP SP2, XP SP3, Vista or Windows 7? Could you also try downloading and installing the updated version of DS (instead of the trial version). GEt it here: DS update.

Hi Narelle, I am using XP (SP3). It's 11PM EDT so Tomorrow I'll try your suggestion and download the updated version and see what happens.
Thanks for your help so far.

Good luck. Another thing you can try (you may want to do this first) is go to http://www.cricut.com/CDS/support.aspx and run the .net 2.0 tool. (Found that info by doing a search of the old m/board).

Hi Narelle,
Just wanted to let you know what happened today. I downloaded the net 2.0 removal tool and ran it and it did remove Net 2.0. So I then ran the update version of CDS which I had already downloaded previously for the laptop. It installed but still needed the .net 2.0 Framwork. SO I ran the net 2.0 file that I downloaded from cricuit.com, etc. That also installed this time. However, things happened later. After installing the CDS and using the trial version I had no problem opening it and I played with it for a little bit. I also ran the latest version of the cartridge installer so that I could have all the cartridges that I own in the program. As I said I played with it for a bit, didn't save any files--I wasn't ready to do so, exited the program, went to lunch, did some things around the house and then decided to open CDS again. This time it failed to open--no error message only the window that says that it encountered a problem and needed to close--send report yes or no, etc. Then I also realized that my AVG security firewall was not active and also I could not open Adobe Reader 9.0. I was now very annoyed and I am thinking that the uninstall of .net 2.0 must have messed up AVG and Adobe Reader. To make a long story short, I decided to scrap the whole idea of using the trial version on my desktop computer. Because I didn't want to have to reinstall AVG and redo all my settings I decided to do a System Restore to a day that I know everything was working correctly. That put everything back as it was before the uninstall of net 2.0.
I do however, want to thank you very much for giving me your suggestions and help. Sometimes things just don't work the way you want them too.
Thanks again, Toni

Phew. What a day you had! I knew things were going to go downhill when I got to the "however...." I'm wondering if downloading and installing the DS update (rather than the trial version) would work. (The last time I checked the trial version wasn't as up to date as the new DS version). You can get it here: DS UpdateEdited by user Sunday, December 05, 2010 5:34:42 AM(UTC)
