It gave me the characters won't fit even though it said paper was 12x12. I turned it off, even unplugged it over and over.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello! It sounds as though you have your size set too high for the image you have selected. Please decrease the size until it will fit. You can also use the Cricut Craft Room program to see the image on a mat. I suggest this because a lot of images fit onto a mat at very small height. The reason is because the image is very wide! As you increase the height the width also increases making it tricky to add some images to the mat. I hope this helps!
