I grew out of my old Cricut storage; a combination of 3 ring binders, Velcro, and coupon holders. I also wanted something that was more portable and had everything: carts, handbooks, overlays, all together. So, I spent last weekend re-doing the way I store it all, trying to only use items from my stash. There are a lot of pictures, so bear with me.

I have a few old hard bodied Samsonite suitcases that I use to store craft books and art books. I had four of them stacked on top of each other to make a light stand for a chair in our family room. That left me with one which is pictured below:

I decided to take some fabric I already had and refinish the inside of the suitcase:

I then took strips of sticky backed Velcro and put them on the fabric in the lid of the suitcase. I added Velcro dots to the back of each cart and stuck the carts to the Velcro strips in alphabetical order. I was able to get 76 carts in the lid:

I then cut a piece of black foam core to fit inside the lid. I again used the Velcro dots, ending up with enough room for 70 more carts. There is also room in the lid for one more foam core layer. The bar that goes across holds the foam core in place when the suitcase is open or closed, though I do want to make some sort of strap system with Velcro to hold it in instead.:

I then made straps of Velcro to hold my handbooks, tri-folds, and overlays, all of which fit, with plenty of room for more! There was even room for my Gypsy!:

I still have some cleaning up to do to make everything the way I want it, and I need to paint a pretty design on the outside of the suitcase, but I am very happy with my new storage. DH is going to put wheels on the suitcase for me to make it easily portable. What do you all think? GG

hah I have not gone that far. I kept all the boxes, just boxed them up in a big box and put them under the stairs in the basement. so they are still taking up space, just not in my craftroom.

i very much appreciate this post. I will consider this storage method since I really don't have space for keeping all my carts in their boxes and still have crafting room. i too love my boxes so this is a really big step to consider an alternate arrangement. i do not plan to get rid of my boxes however, just not ready for that step. lol.
