Hi. I'm thinking of getting a Gypsy. Unfortunately, I see a lot of negatives out here, but may still get one. My question is, once I get my Gypsy, upload my cartridges and use it on my Cricut machine, can I take my Gypsy to a Scrapbook weekend and use my Gypsy on someone elses Cricut machine? Is there anything I need to watch out for? Any tips/tricks are greatly appreciated.

There are tons of help in the general posts here, I won't even start.
But for your big question, the Gypsy is independent of specific Cricuts. I can cut with my baby bug, my E or my E2. I can take it to Circle Mania and cut with the Cricut there. School, church, scrapmeet, any Cricut will do, as long as you have your project on a mat that will fit the machine (I can't plan my design on a 12x12 mat and then cut on my baby bug, for example). The one hang up I know of has to do with linking carts. Once they are linked to your G I'm not sure if they can be linked to CCR. My computer and my cricuts were bought specifically to not speak to one another, so I know nothing about CCR.
Those of us who have Gypsies LOVE them. If you get one, you will too!!

The only thing you may need to do (if the owner of the Cricut is ok with it) is to upgrade the Firmware on their Cricut. If they've never used Design Studio, a Gypsy or CCR on their Cricut it will still have the original firmware and won't cut from the Gyspy until it's updated. For the Personal, Create and Expression you can update from the gypsy itself. (Although I believe there may be a problem with the Create update... so best to steer clear from than one if you want to stay friends with the owner) For the Mini, E2 & Imagine the firmware needs to be updated using Cricut Sync. If you do go ahead and purchase a Gypsy, you might want to link your carts using CCR, not the Gypsy. Linking them using CCR links them to your cricut.com account. Once that's done all you need to do is sync your Gyspy and they'll also be linked to that. However, if you link them using your Gypsy first, they currently can't be linked to CCR too.
