I have wanted to see Hawaii for a very long time. I have a college friend who is living over there and after gchating for over a year and a half pretty much every day.. I FINALLY decided it was worth the 10 hour flight over there to visit him...

Has anyone been before? And what are some of your fave things to do while there?

Any locals on the board? I would love to know what are some of the things you do.

My friend recommended I stay in Waikiki, which I am..

TIA

Beaches, beaches, beaches! Scenery, scenery, scenery! Relax!

Pearl Harbor -- takes more time than you think it would -- it is amazing.

Punch Bowl cemetery -- we spent a couple of hours there. Sobering and beautiful.

Dole Pineapple Plantation -- beautiful gardens, tasty treats

Polynesian Cultural Center -- a full day, plus. We loved it.

We only had 3 full days there so didn't do much relaxing. Will relax more on our next trip! (Can't happen soon enough!)

Have a wonderful time!

Yes, Stay in Waikiki, you will be so close to the beach and shopping. There are lots of hotels close to the beach, all within walking distance.

If you like history, you can climb Diamond Head. It was $5 I think a few years ago when we were there. We climbed all the way to the top. It has a great view of Waikiki beaches and the island.

The last time we were there we visited the Dole Plantation. And my dd and I did the pineapple shaped maze. It took us a little while to find our way through it. But we had fun!

Enjoy your trip!

I agree with all this! And much more. You are going to have a fabulous time, relax and enjoy! Try to take a drive around the island ... you'll see so much more than you would in Waikiki alone. Definitely visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, it's one of my favs. I lived on Oahu for 4 years (my son was even born there), and we visited the PCC several times a year, there is always something new and wonderful to see. Try to attend a luau if you can, they are always great fun with wonderful food and entertainment too.

HAVE FUN! BigGrin

You will have a wonderful time!!! We went last year for my son's "Make A Wish Trip" and it was just fantastic. We stayed at the Waikiki Beach Marriott. We did Pearl Harbor, Dole Pineapple plantation, Paradise Cove Luau, Kualoa Ranch, Sea Life Park and took a Makani Kai helicopter tour of the island. Also, right down the street from the hotel is the Honolulu Zoo and Waikiki Aquarium(we walked to those)and Diamond Head. We didn't get to do Diamond head as my son is in a wheelchair. 2 of the best restaurants we ate in were right in the hotel. We had the best steak at the steak place and the best sushi in the sushi place. They were pricey, but we figured it was a once in a lifetime trip. Although I'm sure your friend knows all of the good places to eat without breaking the bank! There were more things we wanted to see and do, but a week wasn't enough!

I was blessed to live there for several years. Get to the North Shore! If at all possible take a day trip to the Big Island (my favorite of the Islands to have lived on) and drive the loop around. You can experience 8 different climates in one day! And then go up to Mauna Kea to visit the observatory. If you can't leave Oahu then everyone else gave you all the main locales. Enjoy

Everything said above . If you do get to the North Shore, visit Matsutmoto's for their shaved ice. It's located in Haleiwa, Hawaii. It's known for it's shaved ice with sweet beans. Also the Aloha Stadium Swap meet is fun. Have a great time.
