I just got an Expression this week (bought the pink one with my Christmas money). Anywhoo, I saw they were having a sale on the cutting mats here, when I went to go look at them the reviews are terrible. YIKES!!! Now I am scared to buy any, but obviously you can't cut without mats. What is going on?!? Glare I budgeted to get my Expression and can't afford to waste my money on mats that don't work.

I believe thosse reviews are about the previous Cricut mats The new mats have the word Cricut across the front of it, in the middle. They are much stickier than the mat that the reviews are based on. Cricut.com has the new mats, so if you order, it will be for the newer, stickier (is that a word?Blushing ) mats. Hope this helps.

As garagesaler said, the new mats have the word "Cricut" across the middle of them in the cricut green color & they are good. I just bought a pack a couple months ago & they work great.

Some mats have an adhesive with a short shelf life (meaning that it loses it's stickiness quickly). This issue has been corrected on the newer mats. Look for mats with the word "Cricut" in the center of the mat ... they are the newer mats with a better adhesive.

I've heard that the image on Cricut.com is of the old style mat (it doesn't show the word Cricut in the center), however they are actually selling the newer mats. I have not purchased them yet myself, so I would recommend contacting PC's customer support to verify that this is correct.

Note: I plan to purchase some extra mats while they are on sale too ... so like you, I am hoping those that wrote the negative reviews are referring to the older mats.

I haven't seen any bad reviews on the new mats....if you get the ones with the name Cricut across them you should be good! I love the new mats and the old ones were horrible....I had to have 6 sets replaced because they were so bad!

The new mats with Cricut written across them are great.

Some stores are still selling the old style ones until they sell out so some of the "newer" reviews may still be talking about the old mats.

Maybe some of us should go and write up some new reviews and include the "Cricut in the middle" info so it will help with the confusion.

Happy crafting

And don't throw them away if they ever become non-sticky...you can us Zig Two-Way glue or any repositionable glue to re-stick them (after washing with soap and water).BigGrin

there are still old one out there. My closest hobby lobby still has them and apparently can't get rid of them. Before Christmas, I found the new ones on the rack behind the old ones and just took all the new they had and left the old. The last time I was in there , the old ones were still hanging and no more new ones behind them. The new ones work great. I think even better than the very first generation mats.

A handy hint, if and when your mat gets less sticky keep some painters tape nearby. Tape the edges down (4 small pieces, one for each edge), and wash your mat under hot tap water and use dish soap to lightly scrub the mat will refresh it a bit. I also keep one of those lint rollers (sticky paper ones) to clean my mat in between.
