Hi, I posted about my "Fill a Bucket" bulletin board a few months ago. I remember some people wanted to see pictures but I never did find them. I am doing it again this year so we made another bulletin board. I've been trying to use the Cursive 101 font a lot because many of my 7th graders say they never really learned cursive! (I know they did learn it but it didn't seem to be a focal point.) It's been a while but I finally blogged about it at: http://learningcurve2012.blogspot.com/I hope that helps! Bucket filling is more for elementary students but I almost feel like it is more needed at the middle school level. Also, I'm going to cut some shapes for "notes" so kids can write them to each other. I've been bringing a lot of my scraps in and kids are using all of them to write their "fill a bucket" notes. I guess it's a good thing I make so many cutting mistakes! Happy New Year!

Your board is fantastic! I can't believe that 7th graders would say they never really learned cursive. What school is this!

I love your bucket bulletin board. I can see it being a very positive influence in children's lives who may not get any (or much) elsewhere. I totally understand the children NOT being able to read cursive. NC just introduced a Bill to get teaching handwriting back in the schools. My grandchildren in SC are not being taught it either. I could not believe it!

Love your board!!! TFS This is a wonderfully colorful idea. D-
Unfortunately the classroom teachers are having more and more they are required to teach and many of our school days have been cut so things that are not specifically required of them are receiving little or no focus. If it is not required it is being left up to the individual teacher to fit it in.
(Our school district is having a budget reduction day right now) (Also FYI I am not a classroom teacher)
When my daughter was in school I wanted to focus on her handwriting being readable... one of her teachers told me that "in the future everyone will be typing everything" (she said this 15 yrs ago) While some of this is true with email, text messages, PMs, etc EVERYONE still needs to write by hand sometime throughout their day. Their work may end up being published using a computer but the steps to getting there will be by hand and needs to be done so it can be read.
These are just my opinions here.

I agree that ALL children should learn proper penmanship, printing and cursive.
I believe a bill was just passed in a neighboring state that requires cursive handwriting to be taught.
