I had a really odd problem with a cricut cartridge that I just got for christmas and I thought I'd share the solution just in case someone has a similar problem. I inserted my new Mini Books Cartridge into my Expression 2 and the buttons were all blank. I could click on them and images would show up on my mat, but the images weren't on the buttons. I called Cricut Support and they told me to insert the cartridge backwards in my machine. So I did and that fixed the issue. Apparently sometimes the cartridge stickers are stuck on the wrong side.
My husband unscrewed the cartridge and flipped it the correct way so I can see which cart I have in my machine.

And how do you like that cart? Santa brought me one and I have done 2 of the books just to see if I can. The exploding box is my fav and the reason i got it...from Santa I mean lol

I haven't made anything with the mini books cart yet (only because I've got a scrapbook in progress and I have a tight deadline). That being said I love the cart and I have plans to make a couple of scrapbooks and a journal (like a smash journal) as soon as I'm finished with my current project.
