I just purchased my cricut about three weeks ago and I've made simple cuts. Just today I attempted to cut a pretty intricate card and it seems to cut fine partially but when I lift it off of the mat, it basically tears at its most intricate parts. I have a spatula that I use and it seems to make it worse because my mat is also SUPER sticky. Some advice would be nice please!!! cRa

If your mat is too sticky, one trick I learned on here is to pat it with your hands a bit so it is not so super sticky when you out your paper on it. I have to go really slowly when I peel off an intricate cut off my mat. If I pry it up too quickly, it may rip. Also, intricate cuts are easier to work with when they are cut a bit larger. Welcome to the world of Cricut. You will love the things you can make with your Cricut!

Thank you, I'll have to give it a try and I cut it at 12 inches but I guess it might have been mostly the mat stickiness. It's because it's new lol, just kidding but thank you!

If it is a very sticky, new mat, you could try sticking it to a t-shirt. That will lay down some fuzz on the mat and make it less sticky.

The way that I separate intricate cuts from the mat, is to turn the mat and paper over, bend the mat, slide the spatula between the paper and mat surface. That way the mat is doing all the work and you can 'pop' the images off without bending them.
I use this method on new mats and anytime the images seem to be 'stuck' on the surface. The mat will return to its shape. The paper images come away without damage.

I was going to ask if you are using a spatula to remove your designs. When I first started with my Cricut, I felt like I did not need a spatula. Then my kids bought me a tool kit and it made a world of difference in removing cuts.

It took me a long time to learn how to cut intricate images. I think the best what worked for me is making the settings (blade depth, pressure) lower than it should be and make it a multiple cut (cut twice). Let's say for heavy/textured cardstock you should do 4 and 4. Even the sticky mat (not super sticky though ) was OK in this case. But using spatula is a must. Of course the size of the image matters too, like an intricate snowflake should be at least 5 inches. That worked for me at least.

And some papers are just not good to cut intricate designs (Bazzil) makes me scream!
