In your opinion, what would be the best all around cartridge for making cards. My mother is new to the Cricut and would like a cartridge that is geared toward cardmaking where everything is in one place and she doesn't have to look at multiple cartridges.

It really depends on her style.
Does she likey "cutesy" images? Animals?
I would recommend:
1. Simply Charmed
2. Create a Critter 2
3. Teddy Bear Parade
They are all cutesy and mostly animals, but I use them the MOST in my greeting cards.
Celebrate with a flourish is a good one too, but only if you like flourishes.

I would go back to some of the older cartridges - Doodlecharms maybe (it has simple cuts for every season), or Paper Doll Dress Up. This one has things for EVERY occasion, and you would never have to make a paper doll. There is also Wild Card.

What would work best for your mom would depend on her "style". I think Wild Card would be a good cartridge to start with. Smiley cards may be a good one if she likes fun/cutesy stuff, and Create a Critter for animal cuts.
HTH - be sure to let us know which cart(s) she gets. LOL.

I totally agree, wayyy back in 2006 when my friend was helping me out on which carts to buy she had me get Doodlecharms, then when Paper Doll Dress Up came out I got that one. I too was trying to buy carts. with a bit of everything on it. Makes life so much easier. I like Wild Card a lot too.... Now of course with CCR & DS we don't have to look through all the carts. {physically anyway} Good luck to your mom.

I would also suggest looking at the Every Day pop up cards. it has a good selection of images, and phrases to go with them. Even if you don't ever make a pop up card it still a good one. I find myself grabbing it a lot when I need a card and only want to grab one cart.

It really depends on what type of cards she likes to make....I love making cards that look a little elegant and not too cutesy so my "go to's" are Lacy Labels and Elegant Edges....

i always recommended Stretch Your Imagination cartridge for a person just venturing into images - because it covers all seasons, has cards and card frames, some phrases and other images such as wedding, tags, etc. whatever you/she select i am sure she will have fun exploring all the things you can do with the cartridge selected.

Both of the CTMH cartridges (Art Philosophy and Artiste)have lots of really nice cuts, and they both come with coordinating stamps and chipboard which would work nicely for cards.

I like Art Philosophy and any of the Cake carts for "fancy" cards but Wild Card keeps it simple... It is out of stock but I noticed ScrapahappyDeb has a used one (it's been linked) for sale under Product Reviews if you want to check that out.

Thank you to everyone who is responding. This will be a Christmas gift for my mother. Normally I would say that her tastes run more elegant but she has been surprising me lately. I have tried explaining to her that you can use any of the cartridges to make cards but I think, to start, she is afraid to be adventurous and wants something that will basically help her build a complete card in one cartridge.
There are some great ideas here and I appreciate everyone that is responding.
