I am cutting a lot of images for the board, mostly using New Testament and came across a great paper saver and trick. I set my E on landscape and am using various colors of marbled construction paper. the marbeled seems to be a much better quality in that it does not leave fibers all over the cutting area, etc. Anyway. with it set on landscape and putting the paper on clear to the left (const. is 9"x 12" so the 12 " is running downward. I am able to cut 11' images The camels turned out really neat even put the fancy blankets over their humps. Baby Jesus is very dimensional with all the layers........It is turning out alot better than I expected............I highly highly recommend this cartridge New Testament for the realistic cuts. I am so happy that I can put my cricut to use and our whole church family will get to enjoy the manger scene. I am going to make the buildings in the distance that are on Christmas village, and shepherds and lambs back in the distance as well. Still gotta lotta cutting to do but it will be worth it. I was at a garage sale this summer and bought a huge stack of pkgs of various construction paper for a very cheap price so will utilize it alot now. Using landscape I can cut 2 11" people (sheperds, etc) out of one sheet of construction paper. Edited by user Monday, December 03, 2012 9:25:02 PM(UTC)

Two things:
1 please post pics :)
And
2 please be careful with construction paper. The first time I used my cricut I uses it with construction paper and it was a mess-the mat was basically ruined and the cuts tore. Who knows though, your skills may be way beyond mine lol!!!

Your board sounds like it will be great!
I use only construction paper all the time. Some brands are better than others. But most of the time I don't have any trouble cutting it.
And if the paper stops sticking to the mat I just wipe it with a baby or clorox wipe and let dry. Once the mat is dry, it's good to go again. If that doesn't work then I put the mat under running water and gently rub the fibers off with my fingers and then let dry. I am on my 3rd mat. I have had to replace the mat because the mat cracked.
Please post pics when you are finished.

This is awesome! Both good that you are getting bigger cuts with your E & also great that you get to make the Church bulletin board using your talent & your E....How fun! Please post pic's when your done......I love nativity scenes.

selena, yeah I was well aware of the damage cheap construction paper can do thus I was pleased with what I did use. I actually got it at target and it is their marble construction paper Marble on one side but not flaking clumping in machine. I will try to post pics when I am done.

I think this sounds really neat, too. It's the ultimate compliment when someone asks you to do something like this......you should feel honored and proud! I can't wait to see your finished project! - Char

If you are not sure if your construction paper will hold up to cutting laminate it first or use clear contact paper in place of laminating it. This will add body to your paper and you can keep it for years to come! Please post pics when your done.
