When I am working with working or images in the CCR I sometimes see a little box asking me if I want to "weld" the images together.
What does welding things together do exactly?

I'm sure someone else can answer this better than I can, but until they come along I will try to explain. Welding is joining shapes together. When shapes touch or overlap, the box pops up asking if you want to weld or not weld. If you weld them together, they become one shape and the parts that overlap will not cut. (I think they show as grayed out.) You would want to use this option to weld if you want to join letters together to cut words in one piece. You can also use welding to join shapes to form borders, new shapes, etc. If you look on You Tube and do a search for welding in Cricut Craft Room, you will probably find more information. Hope this helps a little.
