Hi everyone.....
I just bought my wife a cricut and was waiting for her to try it out.
Funny thing is she wants me to do it for her ....LOL
My question is can a cricut be used to do vinyl window decals of on windows of cars or trucks.
If I can do this she will see it will not be hard to use.
She wanted this for her birthday as she is doing a lot of scrap booking ..
Any info on what to purchase and how to go about making window decals for myself would be a great help.

Congrats on your/her new Cricut! Yes, you can cut vinyl with your Cricut. There are different types of vinyl (some specifically for outdoor use) and different brands of vinyl. You might check the vinyl forum for some info. I've only used the Cricut brand (bought at Joann's using a coupon!) for my walls and the Wall Pop brand bought at Lowe's for several plastic containers. Once you learn the functions of your Cricut, you will love it!

Welcome and congrats to you and your wife on your gift to her. You will both love it.
you can get window decal stuff (at least you used to be able to) at the office stores. It is thin enough that the cricut will cut it with ease. you will only need to kiss the cut (back off on the pressure and blade depth) so that the backing stays on and you can put it in your window.

lol! Your wife sounds like me- I made my husband set it all up for me and do the first several cuts! Once I learned though I was off and running.

Congratulations on your purchase, you and your wife are going to love love this machine, it can do soooo many things and they are as simple as pie.
I cut vinyl all the time, I cut the regular cricut brand of vinyl and I cut the outdoor use vinyl. I find the same settings work for both... sometimes the thicker outdoor vinyl needs one more bit of pressure, here are the settings I use to get clean vinyl cuts:
Blade: 6
Speed: 3
Pressure: 3 (4 for thicker vinyl)
The cricut brand vinyl is great for indoor use and outdoor use for up to 5 years....
Hope you have a lot of fun with this as I am heading out to cut some stencil material and vinyl as i write for wall art!!
Have fun with your machine and tell your wife not to be intimidated!! you cant really wreck it so tell her to play with scrap paper and she will get the hang very fast!

I use my cricut EVERYDAY! and I mean that.

My husband likes to play with mine sometimes also, although he hates to admit it. I have had him make a few cards at Christmas time. He is very proud when he is done.
I love using the Vinyl. Great suggestion was made in earlier post to watch some videos...google it or YouTube.
Most important part of the Vinyl is to use the transfer paper because the vinyl will stretch after you peel the backing off if you try to free hand it.
I use the vinyl as stencils when I do my glass painting and etching. Works great.
I am going to help my daughter decorate her laptop with colored vinyl. I saw that on here and we loved it!
