Let me start off by saying that I knowing about yarn, thread, sewing, etc. My mom is trying to get into knitting and I'm wanting to encourage her. For her birhtday next month I've ordered some Knifty Knitter looms off eBay and recently got a whole pillowcase full of different yarn from a thrift store. Most of the yarn seems to be new; I haven't really looked through it all. But my question is, what's the best way to clean and/or disinfect it? Should I put it through the dryer? Or use of of the home-dry cleaning kits? Or just spray with Lysol & Febreeze? LOL TIA!  ~Selena

Do you have the sanitize or steam option on your dryer, if so you can get a lingerie bag and put the yarn in the bag put in the dryer and sanitize or steam them. You might want to run them through the dryer for about 15 minutes to make sure the skeins are dry completely.

It depends on the yarn. I usually wash anything after I knitted it though.

Yeah, I've washed most of my stuff after it's been knitted up. Hmmmmm, can you hang it on a line in a thin pillowcase in the sun for a couple of days?

For me most things that I knit or crochet I usually wash it and flat dry it inside or outside (but I do like that fresh outdoor smell though). I never dry it in the dryer though too much of a chicken. But I am willing to bet that if it is in a pillowcase on the line then I doubt it will stretch. I have never had to do this but I have bought stuff at Goodwill to upcycle (suedes and demins that I have sewn into AG doll clothes) so I know what you mean by that smell. Thank you for all the help ladies. I'll probably be working on the yarn this weekend. I've put it off because my mom's birthday isn't until Thanksgiving. So I will update you and let you know how it went
