I am switching grades to 1/2 from 7/8! In preparation, I have been reading Debbie Diller's Litearcy Workstations book and plan to use this strategy in my classroom as the kindergarten teacher at the school I'm moving to is also using them. Here, I used Ocean Of Words cartridge and little library envelopes to create a sorting activity. Students will sort various pictures into the envelopes (consonants only). This activity could easily be changed up with having students use laminated library cards and a dry erase marker to come up with their own words (either from word wall or all on their own, etc.) The fish peel off fairly easily and I will replace them with blends later on.
