I need to cut a an 11 character but every time I set the machine it cuts 5 1/2, I have no idea how to use it...

If you need to cut an 11" image, you need to select the portrait button and then select the size and hit cut. Now if your image at that size will cut wider that 6" then it might cut. If that does not work, you might try leaving the portrait button selected and then also select fit to page.
I'm not an expert, but I hope this helps.
