Yes. Use a regular cricut mat. The blade on the cake is not adjustable, but you can cut paper with it. I have and it worked fine.

I found some good information on the housing and blade for cutting paper with the Cricut Cake. This under the "Comments" section from the Cakerator, you will need to scroll down to the bottom, past the videos. http://www.thecakerator....o-use-for-that-darn.htmlre: the videos, this might help for those struggling with their gum paste as well. To answer the other question. Per Lori at Cricut Direct, all the cartridges work on the Cricut Cake except the "Imagine" cartridges. I have quite a few cartriges, and they all work. I do recommend staying away from those with tiny intricate cuts, because they just don't work well with the gum paste. And I totally recommend using the Cricut Craft room for laying out images and cutting them exactly as you need. I love this feature. Teresa

Reply to question about how to make the image smaller. There are 2 ways. First one, is by adjusting with the dial size wheel on the right side of the machine near the cartridge. You can adjust the size by rolling it up or down. The 2nd one, is the one I mainly use, is by using the Cricut Craft Room, where I lay out all my cuts, exactly where I want them. To adjust on the Craft Room, you will need to go under "Options", then use "Craft Room" tab. There you can adjust your size in the "Dial Size" window. Also in the Craft Room, once you have selected your image, you can also drag it. I suggest looking at all the "Tutorials" which will help greatly. Hope this helps. Teresa
