I just used my CB for the first time. I wonder now why I waited so long to buy one. I used a spellbinder die and it left a mark on the b plate. Is this normal? Do I need to invest in an extra plate to use the spellbinder dies? Thanks for all the help!!!

Yes, it's supposed to. Any time you use a die that cuts it's going to mark into the plate. Just be sure to move your dies to different areas of the plate and also flip over sometimes so you can wear the plate out evenly.

Even if you use the Cuttlebug dies they will cut into your plate. Completely normal. The first time I used a die in mine I thought I'd ruined it because it cut the imprint into it. Thankfully some friendly people here on PC let me know that it was normal.

I was so mortified then I marked my first plate I actually called the company! What a dunce! I keep one set of B plates, which are so marked up that I can hardly see through them, for cutting and another set for non cutting. And when a plate cracks don't throw it away. I have had a cracked B plate for months now and use it for for all cutting. No problems at all, it works fine. Since you are a new Cuttle Mommie did you know that the Sizzix and Quickuts folders can also be used in this marvy machine?

Yes it does leave marks and one reason I rarely buy the die cuts anymore and also why I basicly only use the cuttlebug for embossing. I do have two sets of cutting mats, one I use the die cuts on and one I use just for embossing. Sarah

I keep an extra set of B plates on hand at all times just in case one of them breaks. I'm terrified of that happening!

I've had my Cuttlebug since they first came out 4 years ago and I am still on my original plates! They are all marked up and warped and look completely horrible, but they work just fine. I plan to use them until they break or are to warped to go through the machine.
I think part of the reason they have lasted so long is because I have 2 spare sets, just in case. You know that if I didn't have any spares they would have broken loooong ago! LOL

I was shocked when there were marks on my plate also!
Now I have two sets of plates, one set for embossing and set one for cutting - I used a coupon to buy the extras.
Glad you are enjoying your Cuttlebug, I ♥ mine!!!

I thought I had ruined mine too lol! I am going to be buying a spare set for my embossing. I dont like to use the cut up plates because I always try and make sure everything is lined up properly.

I went through the same thing when I first used a die on my Cuttlebug, but after seveal years of heavy use my B plates are still working. They look terrible and I feel like they will break at any time so I have an extra set. I've had it for the last year. LOL.
I also use Quick Cuts dies with it, but the Nesties are my favorite.
