I've been wanting a lightweight sewing machine for my scrapbooking for awhile now. I don't want to have to get my nice big one out all the time. So today, I've read two posts about the Janome Sew Mini. My only question to those of you who have that machine is, do you miss a light? What do you really think of it? It's still on sale online at Hancock Fabric and I really want to order it. Just not sure if I'd like it without a light.
Does anyone have a different brand you'd recommend?

The Janome is what I use and I don't miss not having a light. I figure when I use it for paper crafting projects it is only for a short amount of time and the light in my kitchen does just fine.

At first I did miss the light but if you are just using it for cards or layouts you aren't using it for a long time so it is not bad. I like mine. If you want some more info on it there are a few videos on Stamp TV.. Just look on the right hand sde of the site, there is a list of past videos and it is listed there. Good info.

I actually ordered the Janome Sew mini after all the enabling on the mb. I got it on Monday, was sewing away by Friday. Mind you, I have NEVER touched a sewing machine in my life. Since it doesn't come with light, I don't miss a thing. It is very lightweight (5 lbs) and easy to carry around and take out from storage. Loving it.....

I am inbetween the Pixie and this one! I saw both at Joanns yesterday and I liked the Pixie better. But my coupon wasnt good yet. It doesn't start until Sept. 26th and then it will probably be on sale!

I'm seriously thinking that I'll order the Janome before evening. However, I was wondering about the Pixie. I plan to use it to sew a few quilt pieces, too. That's the reason having no light was concerning me.
Thanks for all of your responses and the video!

Deeda if you wait I know Hancocks will have the Janome on Sale again. It seems to go on sale every few weeks or so. As for the Pixie, I almost got it at Christmas time but after so many people said they returned theirs due to problems I decided to hold out for the Janome.
But with that said, there have been a few that said they liked their Pixies. When I looked at one at Big Lots to me it seemed my Janome was a little more sturdy.

Okie~~~ I love the video!!! Thanks for sharing the Janome with us!
The pixie that I was looking at wasn't the same as the one that people were buying last year I don't think. It is solid white with a little purple on it. The other one was all purple with white on it. I will research before I buy of course!

Love mine...I just got it about a week ago and havent really had time to play with it yet. I have cards to make so maybe tomorrow! I dont think the light will be an issue for me because I have my Ott light on my table that I can just use instead.

Now go get that baby out and play with it before I turn you in for neglect!

Okie, my problem is we're hundreds of miles from a Hancocks. We were just in OKC last weekend for our granddaughter's soccer game, and we won't be back close to Hancocks for a month or two. And I'll admit, my biggest problem is I AM IMPATIENT! I WANT IT NOW! Even paying an extra $10.00 for shipping and then waiting for it to get here will make me think I have one. So, unless someone wants to meet me with one, I'll probably order it. Wanna meet?

the pixie the gal is talking about above is the pixie plus. Most reviews have said not good for sewing anything other then paper.
I just picked up the pixie plus but haven't tried it. It was on clearance at meijers so I thought I would give it a shot.
I will let you know how it works.

I have the Janome and it works great for such a little machine. It was on sale at Hancock Fabrics online for $40 and they have free shipping on orders of $60+ so I just added some accessories.
Ohhhh....I just looked - it's on sale right now!! Janome Sew Mini

Thanks for all the info guys! I was pondering this same question earlier today and didn't post it. I am using my full sized Brother machine for my cardmaking and it is temperamental to say the least. I would like something that is smaller and easier to deal with.

If the only thing holding you back is the light issue just pick up one of the book lights that you can just clip on a twist around anyway you want it.

The Janome mini sews so well that I'm thinking of getting a regular one for my sewing. I was a little disappointed at first that it didn't have a light, but I just use a small desk lamp and that seems to work fine. I would not recommend the Pixie.

Thank you all. I just ordered my Janome Sew Mini machine - with free shipping. I hadn't noticed that there was free shipping with a $60.00 order. Thank you for pointing that out. It wasn't too hard to find other things that I just had to have. Woo-Hoo! I can hardly wait. Thanks again.

I set up my sewing machine permanently so I dont have to always be taking it out. I actually have 4 sewing machines and a serger. Maybe you could find a place to set up your big sewing machine?
