Okay, so I haven't 'officially' gotten my Cricut yet, but my mother (God bless her!) asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said I wanted a gift card so I could put the money towards a Cricut. Well, she wound up getting me one on Black Friday at Joann for $59.99, it was the Cricut Create. Needless to say I'm going absolutely crazy because I'm DYING to get it out of the box and play with it. It came with the Don Juan cartridge. This will be my first Cricut.
What are the differences between a Cricut Create and a Cricut Expressions? I saw the Expressions at Wal-Mart today and about fell over when I saw the price! Can the Create do everything the Expressions does? Or is it limited in what it can do?
Thanks so much for the information!!
Happy Holidays, Sarah

The difference is the size of what you can create. An expression uses a 12x12 mat, while a Create uses a 6x12 mat. The features on the Create and the Expression are the same. Enjoy! They are both great and you will have a great time. Feel free to ask questions here too! So many people are so helpful.

No the 12x12 mat will not work in the Create. It is not wide enough to accommodate the 12 inches. But the Create has all of the same awesome other capabilities as the Expression.

My husband bought me the Expression for Christmas. It is setting in our guest room just taunting me. December 25th can't get here fast enough. I am a teacher and have been wanting one for years. I plan on doing my bulletin boards with mine. That is the only reason we went with the Expression. I also want to do some etching. I guess we will be going stir crazy for the next several weeks.

Thanks, Margaret!!! I think I'm gonna spend a few years playing with the Create and maybe upgrade later down the road.

I think the one your mom got is actually the V1 which is the original bug (unless your JoAnn's was selling the create for the same price as the original bug). There are 7 different cricut machines out there
Original V1 - Cuts 6 x 12 comes with George and Basic Shapes Cricut Create - Cuts 6 x 12 comes with Don Juan Cricut Expression - cuts 12 x 12 and 12 x 24 (usually comes with Accent Essentials and Plantin Schoolbook (but some other reatailers have other carts that come with it)
Cricut Cake - cuts 12x12 and 12x24 usually comes with cake basics Cake Mini - cuts 6x12 and I believe comes with cake basics Martha Stewart Cake - cuts 12x12 and 12x24 (not sure which cart comes with this one)
Cricut Imagine cuts 12x12 it cuts and prints (not sure which cart comes with this one)
Congrats on your new cricut you will love her and this MB is full of inspiration and very helpful

Hey Sarah. You won't need any inks. These are only for the Imagine.
I got a Cricut the day they were released in Aust and it is GREAT> I have just recently got the gypsy which makes the cricut create EVEN BETTER!!! and now I'm getting the expression. You will have so much fun with your cricut and find out so much useful things from this MB. Just look out because this message board also shows you new and exciting things that you will NEED!!! Lol
Have fun on boxing day! Stacy

Doxie, It's a Create, it comes with the Don Juan cartridge. It retails at Joann.com for $329.99 and it's currently on sale for $230.99 and my mom was able to get it for $59.99 on Black Friday. Here's the exact machine: Cricut CreateStacy, Thank you so much for clearing up the ink thing! I've heard a lot about the Gypsy but have yet to research it. ~Sarah

Congrats on the new Cricuts! You guys will love them. :) A helpful resource is to go to youtube and do a search on Cricut/How to use a Cricut, etc. There are also quite a few blogs out there that have helpful video's.. one that's great and her video's are on youtube and her blog is MyPinkStamper.com
I teach also and my babybug is going in to work with me for doing letters. SOOOOOOoo much faster than the hand diecut machine. I have an Expression I use at home. There is a thread for educators.
Ink - there's two answers to that. Printer ink - no, that's the Imagine. However, they do make what looks like mini marker pens that will go into the cricut. You don't *need* those for the machine. They're another fun thing to use.
Enjoy and if you get stuck, the boards a great place to come. :)Khrista
