Hi all, I am new to the community. My name is Anita and I live in the Netherlands. I started using Design Studio this week, but I use the Cricut Create for a year now.
I can't figure out how to get the layers for a font to have the same size. The font I am working with is a deer with flowers from the Give A Hoot cartridge.
I use DS to resize the original font, but the SHIFT, FIRST LAYER and SHIFT FIRST LAYER fonts do not match the original, although I use the same resize dimensions.
Real Size is off.
I hope anyone can help me.

Hi Anita. Welcome to the messageboard! When you're using DS to create layers you should set the size of your base object first using the Default Size slider under the DS keypad. Then leave it set to the same size for all your layers so they all fit proportionally. Thank you for your quick reply.
I have tried what you suggested, but that didn't seem to work. I use a font where a deer is sniffing at a flower. I adjust the width to 2,5 and the height to 3,5 in the Shape Properties in order to match my cart. Default size is always the same, I even tried 5 because that was also the size on the display of the Cricut at that time.
When I do the first cut, the width of the original deer with flower is 2,5 inch. In the second cut, with only the deer, the deer width is stretched to 2,5 inch.

First you need to ignore what is showing on the Cricut. DS over-rides all those settings. Secondly, don't use the shape properties box to change the size. Work out what HEIGHT you want the deer to be. The width will be set by DS so it is in proportion to the height. If you want the height to be 3.5" set that on the default size slider. If you aren't happy with the size of the deer, delete it from the page, change the default size again and place another one on the page. Once you're happy with the size of the base layer then don't do anything else other than add the other layers to the page. Here's the deer with its layers:  Hope that helps! Hi Narelle, The thing is I don't want the deer and flower width to be in proportion to the height. I need it to be more narrow. When you just use the default size slider to adjust the size of the font, wouldn't that make DS useless then? You can do the same with the CriCut only. What I would do then is place all the images on the mat at the correct height, then instead of using the shape properties to adjust the width, use the horizontal resize handle on each layer. I find this easier to do if I put each layer on a different mat. Use the first toolbar button to add a new mat. Then press the preview button and you'll see the other layers. Move your layer on top of the base layer and adjust accordingly. Using the shape properties box DOES really only work when there's no layers. Edited by user Friday, January 07, 2011 6:05:28 PM(UTC)

I think this is indeed a good method,the way you explained it. It is a lot of work but after some practise it will all be going a lot faster I think.

The brilliant Scrapalette just emailed me and mentioned the easier and most obvious way to do what you are wanting. (Sometimes things just stare me in the face and I still don't see them...) Place all your layers on the mat without pressing enter or clicking on the mat between them. They'll all then be in the one object box and you can use the resize arrows to get them exactly the size you want all at the same time. No need to resize them individually! I did press the space bar between each object so that there would be space between them. This makes it easier to place all the different colours of cardstock on your mat so you can cut everything at the same time.
