I am new to using the cricut expression, and have run into problems when cutting smaller designs, like the pumpkin or a butterfly....the paper bunches up and does not cut. The blade is new, oh and I am using card stock paper, can anyone help

I've never had it so it doesn't cut but I do struggle to get clean cuts when it is a small design. Maybe your mat isn't sticky enough? Perhaps try using a brayer over the paper to help stick it to the mat. Or you could try using a lower blade setting and doing multicut (though you shouldn't need to do this). Hope someone else may be able to help you more.

You might need to change the blade depth or pressure or speed. There is a very helpful list on Above Rubies Studio that gives the settings for all the different types of paper and cardstock.

Usually, when the paper bunches up, it's the pressure. Think of it as the force the machine is placing on the blade housing. Too much pressure will hold the blade housing against the mat and not allow the blade to move freely.
Another common problem is the paper isn't stuck all the way to the mat and pulls up when the blade turns.
