Hi, I am from Australia and need some help. Everytime I cut something out it tears or crunches up. I spend half my time recutting the design. It is very frustrating. Mainly happens with the sharp points and intricate bits. What am I doing wrong. Desperate....Judie

Is there a tiny piece of paper or adhesive stuck to your blade or on your mat (like a tiny bump)? I've had that happen. Or if the mat has a certain part that isn't sticky, the paper will lift enough to smoosh. Hope it's nothing major.

Sometimes a cut size is just too small. You might try a heavier paper as well like cardstock instead of paper you can also play with your speed.

Try taking out the blade housing, and then removing the blade. For some reason, paper can get up into the green housing, and that can mess up how it cuts. I just blow into the housing, and sometimes little shreds of paper come out. Give it a try and see if it helps!
You can also try resticking your mat...if it's not sticky enough it can lift and pull the paper. HTH! Good luck!

On my cricut I have found that having the pressure on the highest setting won't necessarily give me a better cut. I multi-cut just about everything with the pressure on Med to High and blade depth at 4 or 5. The multicut gives me a better, cleaner cut than having the pressure on the highest level and cutting only once. Try that to see if it helps and yes, sometimes intricate cuts just don't do well on the smaller sizes.

My vote is for not having enough tackiness on your mat. If the paper isn't firmly stuck down, it will lift just enough to cause it to tear.
Light weight paper sometimes just will not cut cleanly no matter what you do if you're trying to have the Cricut blade make tiny openings or sharp turns.
When I run across a sheet like that, I set it aside to use for a geometric shape on a card front that's simple to cut.

I find if it is a very detailed cut a slower speed helps and I use multicut if my paper is very heavy at all. Also have you seen the cutting guide at Above Rubies Studio. You can download it for free from that site. I also use the spatula and the dental pick like tool for removeing my cuts and getting the tiny pieces out of detailed areas.

And sometimes if the mat has blade marks from using the heaviest pressure, it will catch the blade and cause a tear. Also tiny bits of paper stuck on the mat can catch up the blade, so if I am having tearing problems and I have adjusted my speed and depth, then I wil use my scraper to clean my mat or try a new one.

I found there are just some thinner papers that just don't work well at ALL in the machine. But slowing the speed down, and adjusting the pressure (more isn't always better as others have said). And perhaps run a lint roller over your sheet to remove all the little bits of paper and lint from the page. It will help get your mat a tad sticker. Good luck.
