I've tried highlighting before and/or after my text but it's always the small defualt size  .

OMG . . . when I saw the subject line I thought that someone was asking how to make a font larger with the Cricut LOL!
I am going to test writing things in different sizes here
we will see if this is any bigger
it worked!
I just highlighted the text and used the pull down of the font size . . . first line is default, second is 8, third is 9
I did have to do one line twice before it inserted the code before and after the words

There isn't a way (yet) to make the default size larger - you have to change it on each post. After you highlight your text and choose the new size it will still *look* small, but when you post it will be bigger.
