I'm thinking of replacing my laptop with a tablet. If I get a tablet that is Windows based and has a USB port (to plug in the machine of course), will I be able to be business as usual?

I'm thinking not.
Can you install programs on a tablet? I have an iPad and I definitely can't install programs on that. Apps... yes. But not programs like DS.
The other problem I see is the screen size of the tablet. If it's too small you won't be able to see the whole screen. In fact if it's too small you won't even be able to get past the activation screen because you can't see the activate button. (That's what happens on the really small laptops...)
