This is a continuation of the Secret Sister swaps from last year.

The theme for this round is based on the following poem:

SPRING


The long cold winter is melting away
A single red bird was spotted today

Through the mist the sun is peeking
Squirrels are about and acorn-seeking

New life has come to fields and woods

THE IMPORTANT DATE TO REMEMBER:
LAST DAY TO MAIL YOUR BOX TO YOUR PARTNER IS MONDAY, APRIL 30, 2013


A Due Date of April 30th means that I must have a Delivery Confirmation Number (DC#) showing that the box has been accepted at the Post Office no later than April 30. Mailing can start as early as April 1st.


NOTE: My goal is to have all swap boxes received way before Mother's Day in order that everyone may then have the time and opportunity to put some of their spring themed gifts to good use on projects for Mother’s Day (May 12) or spring birthdays or end of school year teacher gifts, Father’s Day, etc. So please check your calendars and social schedules and craft accordingly each week to be done in plenty of time. My personal experience from themed swaps is that I would really rather receive the themed items way in advance so I can enjoy them instead of packing away until next year when the holiday comes around again.

THE LECTURE:

What I’m about to say is truly common sense, but it still needs to be put in writing for you all to ponder. This swap is for those crafters who take pride in their work, insuring their projects are neat and clean, of above-average quality or workmanship, and have respect for their partner’s crafting interests. You also must be mature adults capable of following your own crafting schedule in order to complete this swap on time. My day job is babysitting children and I will not have my hobby also include the job duty of babysitting adults. Check-ins will be every couple of weeks and if you can’t be bothered to check in then don’t sign up. We all have events in our lives that take us away from crafting and mess with our schedules – so accept that fact and deal with it and acknowledge that you will make an honest effort to follow the rules of this swap accordingly.

These swaps are meant to be fun and meant to be great learning experiences for each of us but there also is a high level of responsibility that goes hand in hand with the fun part of the swap. Please be considerate of that and show respect to your partner, to the entire group of swappers and to your hostess.

It’s my responsibility as a hostess to insure that everyone has a partner that will follow the directions and the rules and make this a positive, memorable swap for her partner as well as for my hostessing duties. Therefore, I do have the last say on who may join this swap and who may not. And who may stay in the swap and who may not when they start to disrespect the rules. Further, please know that if events happen in one’s life that will create havoc with the completion of this swap that you are to let me know ASAP and keep me informed so we can make decisions on how best to handle the situation and keep the swap happy for all of us. If necessary, I will do some behind the scenes changes to keep the swap running smoothly.

My goals for this swap are that we will be crafting homemade items with very little "buying” of items for our partners. (This round actually does have one directive that is to be bought) You may be directed to craft a specific item or you may be directed to craft using a certain technique - using that technique to create or alter an idea or item of your own choice. Therefore, it’s possible that you may have to go buy a certain inexpensive item to alter. But hopefully you will find that you’ve already stashed away supplies or alterable items during your last year(s) of swapping and will be so excited to have a reason to finally put that item to use!

Just remember that we all want to receive quality work as well as receive everything instructed to be made in this swap. Please do not think it is okay to send only 3 items when 6 items were requested. And please remember that if you yourself would not be happy to receive what you have just made, then please don’t send it on to your partner. There are so many helpful people on this Message Board and in this swap forum who will gladly offer ideas, suggestions, links, etc. when asked. That is half the fun of swapping – showing each other new ideas, new techniques, new discoveries!

You will be crafting 2 cards - working with polka dots, dots, spots. (i.e. paper, ribbon and/or embellies can be polka dots, dots, spots). You have the choice of 5 different card styles found below.

My thoughts are that as this is a spring themed round, the cards will be used as Mother’s Day cards or gift card holders or female themed birthday cards or even teacher appreciation end of school year cards.

5. “Inchie on a Twinchie” card

I have scraplifted this card idea from splitcoaststampers site under “Try a New Idea” card techniques. Your card front will be embellished with an inchie on a twinchie or multiples.

1. You can use an inchie or cut 1" squares out of cardstock, chipboard, cork...whatever material you like. And then you stamp on it or add some sort of embellie to decorate this tiny one inch square.

2 .Your twinchie should be a 2" square... again, you can use any material you like. If you’d like to work with a trinchie instead, that is fine with me. Trinchie = 3 inch square. And again, you may do some embossing or border punch one side, etc. to dress it up a little bit before place the embellished inchie on top of it.

3. You can use any number of inchie/twinchies...just as long as the inchie is on top of the twinchie.

4. Do remember to incorporate polka dots or dots or spots on the card.

5. Have fun and be creative.

Here is a link to a striking male card made using inchies. How perfect for when you don't want to use ribbons and flowers on a card. These inchies are super simply made but you can also get more creative too.

I'm hoping that the inchies on twinchies idea will give us a quick embellie to throw on a 3x3 notecard, for example, when you need to add a note to a swap pkg. at the last minute.

1. BUY a misting product (ie: glimmer mist, shimmer mist, or TH empty mister bottles, etc.)

2. THEN, craft or alter a small container, gift bag or gift box to hold the product decorating either in yellow theme or sun theme or spring animals/bugs theme.

Craft and embellish at least 2 paper dolls, teen dolls or teddy bear parade bears. These diecuts will be cut from either a Cricut machine or similar machine. It would be nice to see these presented on a tag or similar presentation.

The paper dolls should be 3.5 or 5 inches tall; not sure how the teddy bear diecuts run. The dolls should also have an embellishment or two included. Like how a baseball player would have a bat and cap. And I expect everyone to put some thought into their dolls and choose really cute paper for their clothing, shade them or use white gel pen to highlight, or maybe tiny beads or pearls for buttons, necklace, snaps, etc. These are not to be 2 pieces of paper slapped together. But I think everyone participating in this swap would go above and beyond from previous experiences.

If you do not have access to any of the paper doll cartridges available, then craft items themed around a sweatshirt, zipper, etc. ( ie: zipper flowers or a card that is made to look like a sweatshirt or hoodie)

Craft any project of your choice, as long as it is themed around flowers or trees. If you choose to make home-made flowers, then they must be presented either in an altered container or on an embellished tag, etc.. (they just can not be place in a baggie as a stand alone item)

You will be crafting scrapbook memory projects for this directive.

Please craft a total of 10 photo mats and journaling tags to be used on Layouts;
(photo mats cannot be plain squares or rectangles – they must be fancied up in some manner such as punching one edge with a border punch or making the corners fancy, embossing the panels, etc.)

Create a mini album/memory book


Summer is waiting a few months beyond

Please create a project of your choice that is all about Mother Nature, and, keeping the highlighted word “warm” in mind, you must have at least one embellishment on the project that was made using either a heat gun or a melting pot (i.e. stamped, heat embossed verse, charm made dipping in the melting pot). And yes, shrinky dinks qualify too.

This stanza also leads us into a male themed project or Father’s Day theme, so that might be something to consider when choosing your project.

If you do not own or have access to a heat gun or melting pot, then please PM me or join one of the several wishlist RAK threads and request some type of embossed item/verse to use in your project.

I do lots of layouts of our trips. Usually we do beach vacations but have been in the Southwest(Arizona & Nevada) and also New England . So anything that would go on a layout for these themes would be great. We beach it, explore,& hike.
Particular paperdolls(if you want to be specific) would be:
1. DH(white hair, mustache & cleancut whiskers) decked out for fishing.
2. My boss who rides a trike. White hair, mustache & clean cut whiskers, leathers, pointed boots, sunglasses and a do-rag!!!!

I have an 8X10 picture of Sam Elliott that could use a frame. An inspirational photo cube for my DD would be nice also. A spring tissue box cover in Dark pink/rose for my bathroom would also be nice.

Anything useful that I can use on layouts or cards. Stamped and embossed sayings or words come to mind. I love to use different fonts for each letter of a word. So embellished chipboard letters would come in handy. Adds to the look of a layout

We have a vegetable garden with tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, summer squashes and cucmbers. We have to fence it in because of the deer!!!!
I also have flower gardens. Mostly Daylilies but I have a woodswalk with all woodsy plants and flowers. I have to redo one of my long neglected pereniel gardens this year. So overgrown!!!

Anything beachy, not too frilly, maybe modern, any papers and beachy colors-blues,greens,(water) yellow, orange(sunsets). We fish (DH does), drink, walk, swim, shop and lounge around during our vacation. Love to dine on the water. Sometimes we take a boat ride.

Yes, outside of AK! We are going to the Caribbean and visiting the Panama Canal. My dad is taking us and the kids So excited to THAW out. Celebrity is the line. Honestly an AK cruise usually starts in WA and does SouthEast AK which I've never been to. Wouldn't mind one in the summer.

COB~yes, Mother Nature has been a bit all over the place with us this winter! Now it is snowing and feelng once again like winter.

Sounds like a great cruise Denise ... cruise ships do have wifi ... but it's outrageously expensive, about $20 an hour.

Now lookie here....someone is already thinking outside the box about the heat item. lol

This really should be a pretty simple and quick round. I don't think the time needed to craft the 7 directives will be all that bad this time around. Which is a nice change following the Christmas round and gives us opportunities to do some other crafting or swaps, etc.

So please join this round, if you haven't yet. It's one of the simplest rounds we've had - I think!
