I don't know which one to buy! F.R.E.D is the same thing as the Scrap N Easel its just made out of wood and it comes apart... Anyone have one or used one that can give me a heads up?.. Thanks!

I'm trying to decide which one to get also. I recently had major surgery on my cervical spine and I can't look down for too long. I'm hoping one of these will help with that. There is quite a big difference in price so I'm torn.

I priced the FRED it and comes with 2 freds and 24 magnets for 90? and I think the Scrap N Easel is 80 but the shipping is 19.50.

The FRED is really heavy. STURDY, but heavy. Don't know about the Scrap 'n Easel

I love my F.R.E.D.!! And the man who makes them lives local to me so he was willing to meet me in Michael's parking lot for me to save on the shipping and they sometimes have some "scratch and dent" ones available for less money. There is nothing wrong with them, maybe the wood frame isn't exactly perfect. I was able to save 10% plus my shipping which came to $25 for me. I was impressed with that offer. So the F.R.E.D. gets my vote based on customer service alone.

I've had my FRED for a while now, love love love it! It is so well made that it will outlast me! Because it is wood, it is heavy, not so heavy that you can't pick it up and go but probably a lot heavier than the Scrap N Easel. If you want it for primarily home use, my vote goes to FRED. If you want something to use and primarily travel with, I'd probably go with the Scrap N Easel.
FRED does fold up for travel, but it does have some heft to it. I can't stress enough though how much I love my FRED, really made a difference in my poor neck and back!

I'm really leaning towards to FRED because I want something that is going to last me. I was looking at the Scrap N Easel and its made out of plastic. I have a 3 yr old and if she got a hold of that thing it would be torn up. If I'm going to pay 80.00 for something I want it to LAST for a LONG LONG LONG time! Thank you ladies for helping me make this decision!!! :)

I think he is out of business because I haven't been able to find him for over 6 months. You can sometimes find used ones on Ebay.

either I got a scrap n easel on black friday sales I realy do like it but i'm not sure i would pay 80.00 dollers it is very compact I paid 59.00 for mine .

I am friends with Jenn, whose husband makes the FRED. I am pretty sure he is still making them. I don't really want to post her contact info for everyone to see, but if you PM me I will give you her e-mail address & you can contact her to ask about purchasing one.
I know Jenn has undergone several surgeries for her back & neck & her husband made this FRED for her, to help her with her scrapbooking needs. So it is great for anyone with back/neck or shoulder problems!
Plus you are supporting a local business & I am sure they would be willing to meet you locally to deliver rather than having to pay shipping if you are local to them (Easton, PA).
So PM me if you would like Miss Jenn's e-mail address & she can probably give you more info on the FRED & if they are still making them!

I found Scrap-n-easel for $54.95+9.99 @ http://cartridgesandmore...tegory/sale?AFFID=107039 (I have never ordered with them; anybody have an opinion?) There is a easel-ette a smaller verison(for cards)for $39. I think the F.R.E.D. is out of business.

Okay, spoke to my friend Jenn & unfortunately her husband is no longer making the FREDs. :(
So guess you will have to find either a used one that someone is selling or go with the Scrap-N-Easel. Such a shame as the FRED was such good quality.

Just ordered a Scrap n Easel ($54.95, reg. $79+). I have heard great things about it-lightweight (good for travel) and helps ease neck/back/shoulder strain. I never heard of FRED until visiting this thread today. Just had hernia surgery, so there will be no lifting of anything for a while. This made the buying decision even easier.

Hello - after reading this thread, I thought I needed a F.R.E.D. I checked ebay completed listings, and found one that didn't sell recently. I contacted the seller and she offered to sell it to me, however while I was waiting for her response, I've come up with a different option I'm going to try. So, I told the seller she should probably relist it since this was a somewhat hot topic on the mb. I also told here I would post it here for some other lucky person to buy if they wanted it. (Just trying to help out some one here, and the seller for her time in responding to me. I went to Hobby Lobby bought a tabletop easel and a magnetic white dry erase board and I LOVE it. Much cheaper and very useful. Just an idea you might try.
