Hi I'm new to the whole cricut world!! I ordered a Cricut personal V1 limited edition from Joann's and was wondering if anyone knows what firmware comes on this and if the SCAL 2 will work with it? I know the newer SCAL 3 will not work with any Cricut. Edited by user Saturday, December 01, 2012 3:11:57 PM(UTC)

Do you already have the SCAL2? It is no longer available for purchase.

That may cause SCAL2 not to work with the cricut. Also, just be aware that using SCAL2 may invalidate your warranty on your ciruct. You may have to choose between using SCAL2 and the cricut as a stand alone cartridge machine if you want to use cartridges, or using CCR, the free software online program from Cricut. I don't use ccr much because you have to turn your firewall and anti-virus off to get it to work, and you have may have to update the cricut. That being said. SCAL2 is great program I have an expression that I use with it. I have a mini (great machine!)that I use with my gypsy. The mini and newer machines (expression2 and the imagine) will not work with SCAL2. So, best of both worlds for me...SCAL2 and expression and mini with cartridges with the gypsy. The combination of some of the beautiful carts they have and using SCAL2 with computer fonts, etc, you should come up with some beautiful creations. Congratulations, and welcome to the world of Cricut Mary

I have SCAL2 already installed but how do I get it to cut on my Personal Mini that I just purchased? It is telling me that the driver is not installed but I have been cutting designs from CCR.

SCAL2 does not work with the Mini, Expression2 or the Imagine. It does work really great with the plain old expression and the little cricuts (with the 6by12 mats). Mary

I probably will only use this site to get ideas. I've been told if you use the CCR you still have to own the cartridges in order to cut. Is this true?

That is somewhat true.... you either have to have them loaded on your CCR account, your gypsy or have the physical cartridge to put in the machine in order for it to work. Curious where did you find the scal2 software? I had originally tried to find it when I got my expression in the spring. Up until then I had a baby bug that I used and didn't participate on the mb and had no idea about the software until it was too late to acquire it. Enjoy!

It's hard to find. I bought mine on eBay but I have seen it on etsy.com.

It's still all over ebay, but I think they are copies of the program some boot-legger is selling. It would be rather odd, this far after the settlement where the original maker could no longer sell that version, for a seller to have 30+ "new" copies to sell.
