Since I can't use the Craft Room I wanted to get the Design Studio but I'm having a very hard time finding a new unused one, So I wanted to see if I had gotten a used one would I still be able to use it on my computer with my Cricut?
And do I have to update my Cricut? I have never hooked it up to my computer so I don't know anything about updating it so that part is new to me..

Hello Craft-mommy! The Cricut Design Studio program is not designed for multiple users. It can only be used on one computer. If the serial number has been used it is locked and can not be authorized on another computer. I hope that this answers your questions. -PCGena

I have never hooked it up to anything or updated it.

You'll need to download and install the Design Studio from the cricut website and not from the cd. Although, don't throw the cd and the sleeve it came in away. You'll need the product key that is printed on the sleeve to register your product. Keep it in a safe place in case you need to ever reinstall the software. You will always need that product key. Here's a link to the forum that contains the link to download the Design Studio software program. http://www.cricut.com/fo...sign-Studio-Updates.aspxAfter you download and install Design Studio, you'll need to download and install the font update so that you get the cartridges that have been released since then. The link is on the same forum page as the DS software download above. Hope that helps, Mary Edited by user Tuesday, November 27, 2012 5:16:43 PM(UTC)

Thanks for the tip's, I don't have one yet but I'm having a hard time finding a unused one. Once I can find one then I will do all the downloads, but I was just asking do I need to update my Cricut if I gotten one?

Yes, you will have to update the firmware on your Cricut if you haven't already done that by using CCR. The minimum firmware needed for the machines to use DS are: Cricut Personal: 1.34 Cricut Create: 1.54 Cricut Expression: 2.34 (DS doesn't work with the E2, the mini or the Imagine.)

I don't see why you can't use a used copy, as long as you have the product key. When my computer died on me, I called PC with my key and the set it so I could use it on my new computer. It was a 30 second call.

Probably because they could pull up your DS registration. If someone calls in and gives a serial number that's not matched to their account, I doubt they would unlock the registration. I've had to change computers {twice} for my DS and each time they asked for the serial number but not proof of purchase because when they pulled up the number, it was on my account.

The Educational Design Research Studio (EDRS or “Design Studio” for short) has been created as part of Professor Peter Goodyear's Australian Laureate Fellowship project. Research conducted in the Design Studio aims to help provide a richer understanding of collaborative design for learning activities.
