CRAFT WARS: There is a new show on TLC starting this summer called craft wars. Thought it would be fun to do our own spin. You get to keep the items you make or give them as an item in a swap or a s a gift. We just need to see pictures.
DATES: June 23 - June 30,
pictures to be posted June 30, winner announced July 1st. I thought this would be fun to do once a month. We can see what everyone one comes up with from the same list of tools and materials. This is a fun way to connect with other crafters, stretch your creativity, and not have to spend $$$$. I am really excited.
TIMING: Maximum 15 hours during the week (honor system) Everyone has different schedules you can do the challenges at any time during the week as long as you stop at 15 hours. You certainly do not have to take that long.
CHALLENGES: 3 Challenges that will be broad (e.x. home decor item - then you can make a home decor item with what you have in your stash that is on the list)
MATERIALS: A list of materials will be published on the 23rd (I will try to make it items that our found in our stashes) You can use what is on the list, but nothing else except tools. Any inks, paints, etc. will be considered tools for the sake of the challenge. You will be able to use any tools for the challenges.
PRIZE: a random drawing from those that completed all three challenges and posted pics.
Winner gets a choice between 3 packs of I am Roses or the Pretty Pennants cartridge. (YAY)!RULE: You CANNOT buy anything for the challenge - you have to use what you have and you are limited to the list!
CATEGORIES:
(There will always be a catch - because what is a challenge without a catch
)what's catch you ask? You have to use something recyclable or repurposed either in the process or as a part of each completed item. (For example - if you are making a canvas - using some bubble wrap to paint as backround texture or using cereal box to cut chipboard shapes - the list goes on - let's see how far you could take this)
1. Make an item for Home Decor
2. Make an altered tin, box, container, etc? (What if you don't have something in your stash - you can always always have peaches for dinner and alter the can for dessert

)
3. Photo Display - you can alter a frame, make a layout, do a canvas, tag, card, mini, or pretty much anything goes as long as you can put a photo on it. You can think out of the box (or frame

) on this.
WHAT CAN YOU USE:
Tools - All tools, dies, inks, paints, punches - the whole works can be used. I encourage you to break out tools you haven't used or used in a while and give them a work out.
Paper and other base materials: All paper, raw chipboard, fabric, metal sheets are acceptable.
Alterable items: Preference is to have used something that has been used already once before - either recycled or repurposed. However, you can use up to 2 new items for the base of your projects (such as box from a craft store or frame. At least one has to be recycled or repurposed. It could be an item you found at a garage sale.
Ok this sounds easy enough so far so where is the real catch when it comes to what you can use - embellishments
Break out your tools and dies and make your own embellies as much as possible. Create your own flowers. Use it if you have it viva decor pearl pens to make your own pearl flourishes.
You can use only use store bought embellishments if you alter them in some way (example: ink a store bought flower or use alcohol ink on a metal embellie) or to use them to embellish homemade (example - brads or pearls for center of flowers) You cannot buy anything new - it has to be something you already have!
Ribbon, trim, lace, tissue tape, twine, pearl trim, and buttons are all on the list to use.
One exception pass:
I would like everyone to operate within the parameters of the challenge - but I understand that if you are going to put the time and energy into making something you want it to be special and something you will enjoy. Sometimes a project just needs that special something to make it complete, you can add one thing not on the list. You can only do this to one project out of the three.
Here is another catch: You get one entry for the prize if you complete all three items in 15 hours or less during the week. You need to post the pictures and the total time to be eligible. Still post sneak peeks and pictures even if you know you are not going to be able to do all three. It is all still a part of the fun. Now if you get it all done in the 15 hours or less and make all your own embellies, use all recycled or or repurposed items as the base of your project, and do not use the exception pass you can have a second entry for the prize.
Let's do lots of chatting - give us progress reports and sneak peeks....tells of any funny stories along the way or mishaps. Lets make this a fun escape.
