how do you just cut multiple cards 4 1/4" by 4" on a 12x12 sheet?

I don't make that size.
I cut an 8.5 x 11" sheet in half and then fold it in half to make two 5.5 x 4 1/4" cards. These fit into standard A2 envelopes.

If your paper is exactly 12 x 12 you should get 3 strips of 4" sheets when you cut it, then just take those and cut 2 - 4 1/4" strips, you should get 2 with a little left over. I use white card stock 8 1/2 x 11, cut in half then fold them in half for my card; then use the 12 x 12 to cut squares etc to decorate with.
