Wub Sweet Art Factory.com under recipes, has what she calls "Faux Fondant" made from marshmallows. Here is a copy and paste of her recipe for you.

Faux Fondant Recipe

Go to our "How to Guides" to get step-by-step instructions on how to create this easy to make Faux Fondant. You can purchase the gum paste mix (2 oz. jar) in our online store. You can substitute almond flavoring for any clear extract/flavoring of your choice.
You Need:

1 16 oz. bag of Minature Marshmallows.

2 LB. Confectioners Powdered Sugar (sifted if possible)

2 Tbsp. Gum Paste Mix (we sell a 2 oz. jar)

1 Tbsp. Clear Almond Extract

How to Make:
In a microwave safe bowl, add marshmallows. Heat for 30 seconds at a time until melted, stirring each time. DO NOT OVERHEAT. Add extract and stir well.

In a large bowl, mix powdered sugar and gum paste well. Make a well with the sugar (see how-to-guide). Pour melted marshmallows into center. Slowly bring powdered sugar into the marshmallow mix, not allowing marshmallow mix to touch the bow.

Keeping kneading the mix until you get a nice dough. If not using immediately, store in an air-tight container until use. It will keep for many weeks.

Add color gels to create many variety of fondant colors.

Once fondant is made, you are ready to roll it out to create decorations for cakes and cookies. Use cornstarch instead of flour to dust the work surface and rolling pin.

I got this recipe from another board it is my go to recipe!! i have tried regular MMF and liked it but I have yet to have a problem with this recipe. Not sure how it will work with the Cricut cake...but taste is great and it works up real nice!

It's supposed to taste like buttercream Not sure if it's exactly buttercream- but it does taste good- super sweet!

Ingredients Needed:
Crisco
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
8 cups mini marshmellows (a little less than your average bag)
2 1/2 tsp clear vanilla extract
2 1/2 tsp clear butter flavored extract
1/2 tsp salt
3 Tbsp water
1 Tbsp Corn Syrup
2 lbs Powdered Sugar
2 Tbsp Dream Whip (powder- can be found in baking aisle)

Directions:
1. Fit mixer w/ dough hook and pour in sugar, dream whip and salt. Mix well and set aside.
2. Grease large microwavable bowl (ideally glass) w/ butter. Pour in marshmallows, vanilla, butter flavor and water. Heat on high for 60 sec. If completly melted go to step 3. If not, stire and return to microwave for 30 second intervals until completely melted.
3. Add corn syrup and mix well.
4. Carefully add in marshmallow mixture to powdered sugar mixture. Mix at low speed until incorporated. Turn mixer to low/med to knead until majority of sugar is blended in. (there may be some that will not mix in. It's okay, just knead in during next step.)
5. Turn fondant onto flat surface that has been lightly dusted w/ pwdrd. sugar. Knead fondant until smooth and pliable. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and then ziplock bag. Let dough rest for at least 1 hour.

To make fondant to cover a cake, I personally would not add gum paste mix/gum-tex/tylose in, but that's me.

If you want to cut it with your cricut cake, that's a different story - you will need something that will harden the medium for a nice cut.
